Despite first being released just over 25 years ago, Marvel Comics' collection of The Infinity Gauntlet was the highest-selling graphic novel of 2018, according to the year-end report from Diamond Comic Distributors.

Written by Jim Starlin and penciled by George Pérez and Ron Lim, The Infinity Gauntlet follows Thanos the Mad Titan, who uses the titular gauntlet to eradicate half of all sentient life in the universe. It was originally published as a six-issue limited series from mid to late 1991 before being collected as a trade paperback for the first time in 1992.

This iconic graphic novel helped served as the inspiration for the plot of Marvel Studios' 2018 mega-blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, which certainly explains the massive amounts of copies of the book that were sold last year. It seems that a good number fans either wanted to do their homework before going into the film, or were left wanting more coming out of it. Either way, it's safe to say that Thanos effectively won 2018.

While The Infinity Gauntlet is the only Marvel title in the top-selling graphic novels list, Image Comics dominated the rest of the list with 6 titles, and DC Comics had three titles in the top 10, as Hollywood Reporter noted.

Following The Infinity Gauntlet on Diamond's list of the 10 best-selling graphic novels of 2018 are Saga Vol. 9, Saga Vol. 1, Saga Vol. 8, Action Comics: 80 Years of Superman, The Walking Dead Vol. 29: Lines We Cross, Paper Girls Vol. 1, Batman: White Knight, Dark Nights: Metal and Monstress Vol. 1, in that order.

Diamond's sales charts are compiled based on orders made by comic book retailers worldwide, as well other outlets who purchase stock through the company.
