The Staff of Ra's Purpose

In Raiders of the Lost Ark's expository scene, the headpiece of the Staff of Ra was revealed to be the key to discovering the location of the Ark of the Covenant. In one of the movie's most notable moments, Indy places the headpiece on the Staff and infiltrates a map room in the lost ancient Egyptian city Tanis. At a certain time of day, light shines from a hole in the ceiling and reflects through the headpiece's crystal center, projecting a beam onto a location in the three-dimensional city sculpture at Indy's feet, revealing the Well of Souls, where the Ark had been hidden.

Indy and Marion would later be captured by Nazis and taken to the Well of Souls. In Raiders of the Lost Ark's iconic climax, the Ark of the Covenant was opened, releasing malevolent spirits that immediately attacked all Nazis present, exploding their skulls and melting their faces.

Other entries announced in the first wave of Adventure Series toys include figures based on the main characters in Raiders of the Lost Ark - including Indiana Jones himself, his love Marion Ravenwood, his Egyptian friend Sallah, and his antagonists Major Arnold Toht and René Belloq. A retro Indy figure inspired by his appearance in Kenner's classic 1980s The Adventures of Indiana Jones toy line will also be released.

Of course, the saga will continue when Indiana Jones 5 hits theaters on June 30, 2023.
