Phoebe Waller-Bridge has officially joined the cast of Indiana Jones 5.

Lucasfilm confirmed the Fleabag creator/lead will star in the film alongside Harrison Ford, reprising his iconic role as the whip-cracking, globe-trotting archaeologist Indiana Jones. Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four movies in the series, will executive produce with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel. Also returning is composer John Williams, who will write the film's score.

“I'm thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers," said the film's director James Mangold. "Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can't help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

Prior to Indiana Jones 5, Waller-Bridge and Lucasfilm worked together on 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which the former played L3-37 -- Lando Calrissian's droid companion and navigator aboard the Millennium Falcon. Waller-Bridge also created the acclaimed series Killing Eve and co-wrote the upcoming James Bond movie, No Time to Die. In addition to re-teaming with Lucasfilm for the next Indiana Jones film, Waller-Bridge is set to reunite with her Solo costar Donald Glover for Amazon Prime's TV series reboot of the 2005 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie vehicle Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Announced in 2016, Indiana Jones 5 was originally slated to open in July 2019, with Spielberg directing from a script by his frequent collaborator David Koepp. However, the project has gone through numerous delays since then, culminating with Mangold replacing Spielberg at the helm in Feb. 2020 and starting over from scratch on the film's screenplay.

Plot details are under-wraps but it's been confirmed the fifth Indiana Jones movie will "conclude this iconic character's journey," as Kennedy announced at Disney's 2020 Investor Day presentation. Mangold has since hinted the film may take place in the 1960s, picking up in a little less than real-time after the events of 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Directed and written by James Mangold and starring Harrison Ford, the currently untitled fifth Indiana Jones film is set to be released on July 29, 2022.
