Announced in 2016, Indiana Jones 5 was originally slated to open in July 2019, with Steven Spielberg directing from a script by his frequent collaborator David Koepp. However, the project has gone through numerous delays since then, culminating with James Mangold replacing Spielberg at the helm in February 2020 and starting over from scratch on the film's screenplay.

During the Disney Investor Day Presentation in December 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 would "conclude this iconic character's journey." Mangold has since hinted the film may take place in the 1960s, picking up in a little less than real-time after the events of 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Written and directed by James Mangold, Indiana Jones 5 stars Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen. The film arrives in theaters July 29, 2022.
