Indiana Jones 5 star Mads Mikkelsen recently hyped the return of Harrison Ford as the eponymous archeologist adventurer, labeling it 'brilliant.'

Mikkelsen, who appears in the sequel in an undisclosed role, raved about the opportunity to work alongside Ford as he reprised one of his most iconic roles during an interview with Variety at the Sarajevo Film Festival. "Every day of shooting felt like a real Indiana Jones film," he said. "It felt like going back to scratch. Everything looked like it. Harrison was there wearing his [Indiana Jones] clothes. It was just a brilliant experience."

Mikkelsen remarked on Ford's impressive physicality in a previous interview, recalling how his 80-year-old co-star demonstrated his considerable stamina following their very first night of filming together. "I remember the first day we were shooting, it was a night shoot, then we stopped at 5 AM -- and then he got on his mountain bike and went biking for 50 kilometers. Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster," he said. Mikkelsen's comments largely laid to rest concerns at the time over Ford's health, after the Hollywood legend injured his shoulder earlier in the production.

Boyd Holbrook later echoed Mikkelsen's sentiments, insisting that "age ain’t nothing but a number" to Ford and describing the Indiana Jones 5 lead star as "ripping and roaring" in his return to the character. Holbrook, who (like Mikkelsen) was cast in an as-yet-unannounced part, also confessed to feeling the pressure of joining such a popular franchise. Despite this, Holbrook added that he "just tried to focus on the job at hand" and spoke highly of Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold, insisting he "just can’t make a bad movie."

Both Mikkelsen and Holbrook paint a portrait of Ford as being in good enough shape to could continue playing Indiana Jones beyond the upcoming sequel. Even so, rumors persist that Indiana Jones 5 will mark Ford's last outing as the intrepid archeologist and possibly even the end of his acting career entirely. Composer John Williams fueled speculation that Ford will retire, saying in a recent interview: "At the moment I’m working on Indiana Jones 5, which Harrison Ford -- who’s quite a bit younger than I am -- I think has announced will be his last film. So, I thought: If Harrison can do it, then perhaps I can, also." Ford has yet to publicly comment on when he plans to retire, however.

Indiana Jones 5 arrives in theaters on June 30, 2023.
