Indiana Jones 5 has faced a number of setbacks on its journey to the big screen. Its newest obstacle is that it has once again lost its screenwriter.

Per Collider, David Koepp, who signed on to write the film in September 2019, is no longer writing Indiana Jones 5 due to the film recently hiring a new director, James Mangold. "When James Mangold came in … he deserves a chance to take his shot at it," Koepp explained "I'd done several versions with Steven [Spielberg]. And when Steven left, it seemed like the right time to let Jim have his own take on it and have his own person or himself write it.”

Koepp is just one of several people involved with Indiana Jones 5 who have come and gone during the film's lengthy production. Both Jonathan Kasdan and Dan Fogelman were tasked with writing separate drafts of the screenplay before leaving the production.

Most notable among the creative departures of Indiana Jones 5 is Steven Spielberg. He was set to direct Indiana Jones 5 as he had done for the prior installments in the series. However, Spielberg left the production in February 2020 and James Mangold stepped in to take over.

The currently untitled fifth installment of the Indiana Jones series is currently scheduled for release on Jule 29, 2022.
