"Independence Day: Resurgence" Gets Comic Book Prequel

Not only is "Independence Day" getting a follow-up 20 years after it originally invaded theaters, Roland Emmerich's big budget 2016 sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence," will have its own prequel in the form of a new comic.

Published by Titan Comics, the still untitled series is designed to fill in some of the blanks between the close of the original alien invasion film and the upcoming sequel, Titan told The Hollywood Reporter, describing the comic's story as "a rich psychological prison drama." According to editor Steve White, the comic presents "a golden opportunity to segue nicely into next year's blockbuster sequel by taking the mythos of the original and maybe adding a little darkness to it."

Neither a creative team nor a release date have been announced for the comic.
