DeObia Oparei, who plays Prince Doran Martell’s bodyguard Areo Hotah on “Game of Thrones,” has signed on to “Independence Day 2.”
Deadline reports he’ll play Dikembe, the Oxford-educated son of an African warlord, in director Roland Emmerich’s sequel to his 1996 blockbuster.
Oparei joins a cast that includes returning actors Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner, and franchise newcomers Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward, Maika Monroe, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Travis Tope.
Beginning his career on stage, the English actor made his film debut in 1992’s “Alien 3” before landing roles in such films as “Moulin Rouge,” “Doom,” “Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Dredd.” Although Oparei has appeared in just one episode of “Game of Thrones” to date, his role as Area Hotah is a recurring one.
“Independence Day 2” opens June 24, 2016.
