In a Surprise Twist, Zombieland TV Series is Heading to Amazon

Mere days after a casting notice signaled that a planned Zombieland television series is still alive, Broadcast reports is developing the project for its instant video service. Gavin Polone, who produced the 2009 film, remains involved with the potential half-hour comedy.

As Polone revealed in October 2011, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick originally planned Zombieland as a TV show, with CBS going so far as to order a pilot script in 2005. When things didn’t work out at the network, the project stopped briefly at Syfy before it found its way to the big screen, where it grossed $102 million worldwide.

“We always thought [it should be a TV series],” Polone said in 2011. “If you watch the movie with that in mind, you will see some remnants of the television show. We have the ‘Zombie Kill of the Week,’ which was always intended to happen every week. The movie ends on a cliffhanger; it doesn’t have a real resolution.”

According to the casting list that surfaced last week, the TV series will focus on the four central characters from the movie, Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock.
