Just under two month's after the game's launch, Immortals Fenyx Rising has just received its first of three paid DLC packs. A New God picks up right where the main story left off and, while players can jump right in, the story spoilers and difficulty of the new content means those who haven't completed the campaign yet should hold off until they have finished a playthrough of Fenyx's epic story.

Rather than being set on the Golden Isle like the base game, A New God brings players to Olympos, home of the gods, where Fenyx now has to undertake various trials to earn their spot in the Pantheon's inner circle. This provides a plethora of new vaults for players to complete, as well as new mechanics, ability upgrades and gear to equip. Here's what A New God adds.

Changes From the Base Game

The DLC's new setting, Olympos, is quite different from the Golden Isle. While it is an open area you can explore, the home of the gods lacks the monster fights and most of the collectables players are used to. Additionally, instead of a central hub where players can upgrade their stats and gear or change their appearance, Olympos spreads things like Hephaistos' Forge and Aphrodite's Beauty Chair across the map to separate areas associated with the gods in question.

This encourages players to travel to each area early on rather than going all of the trials associated with a single god before moving on to the next as the main story allowed. In fact, some vaults aren't even accessible without unlocking mechanics from other gods.

As for the gameplay itself, while they may be brighter than the Vaults of Tartarus, A New God's vaults are more challenging that those in the base game. Not only are they designed to test your skills and make you use your Godly Powers to traverse the area and solve puzzles, but they also do not allow you to use potions and or other consumables to restore your health or stamina or boost your stats. This means players will especially need to keep a closer eye on their stamina than they likely are used to, as using Godly Powers several times in a row adds up fast.

New Mechanics and Ability Upgrades

Each of the four gods freed in the main story (Athena, Hephaistos, Ares and Aphrodite) has an additional upgrade to their Godly Power and a new Blessing for Fenyx to earn. The former is unlocked by completing a god's Trial of Mystery, while the latter is the final reward from each god, earned by completing their Trial of Blessing.

Completing trials for Athena will earn you an upgrade to Athena's Dash: Immortal Field Breaker. This allows Fenyx to smash through red barriers with the Dash. Her final Blessing is Athena's Agility, which makes arrows refill three times as fast.

Hephaistos' early challenges will unlock a new level of Herakles' Strength: Colossal Strength. This allows Fenyx to move Colossal items, which were previously too heavy to manipulate. It also increases the amount of damage dealt when throwing an object at an enemy. His Bless is Hephaistos' Brilliance, which causes a fiery, damaging shockwave when you stun an enemy that also knocks back nearby enemies

Ares' Wrath also gets a new mechanic in the DLC: Wind Gust. This provides an extra boost to Ares' Wrath, which can lift the player higher or activate certain mechanism. His Blessing, Ares' Respite, makes it so that your combo meter lasts three times as long before it resets.

Finally, Aphrodite will add a new mechanic to Phosphor's Attack: Phosphor Swap. When using Phosphor's Clone, you can press down on the left stick to swap places with the decoy. Her Blessing, Aphrodite's Passion, reduces the cooldown of Aphrodite's Embrace (which restores all of your health if you are defeated in combat) from 20 minutes to just five.

Unlockables

A New God features a new armor set, weapons and other collectables. The former two have additional bonuses you can unlock by upgrading them at the Forge of Hephaistos. The Trials armor set consists of the Crown of the Horai (unlocked by completing Aphrodite's "Trial of Love's Initiation") and the Vestment of the Horai (unlocked by completing the "Trial of Hermes"). The Crown reduces the damage you take from enemies and traps by 30 percent, with a 20 percent chance of creating a stamina orb on each hit if you upgrade it. The Vestment adds an additional use of the Wings of Daidalos, essentially giving you a triple jump; upgrading it will increase your stamina regeneration by 50 percent.

The new weapons are the Sword, Axe and Bow of Trials. The Sword is unlocked in Ares' "Trial of Rage's Initiation," and it provides a 25 percent increase to stamina gained while you have a combo of at least 30, with an additional +3 to the combo meter when hitting with a Power Strike Finisher after upgrading it.

The Axe, unlocked through Hephestus' "Trial of Artistry's Initiation," is similar, increasing stun by 40 percent with a combo of over 30, and adding +3 to the combo meter when executing a Power Spin Finisher with the upgrade. Finally, the Bow is unlocked by completing Athena's "Trial of Wisdom's Initiation." It adds a 20 percent damage boost when landing a headshot with full stamina, and upgrading it gives it the ability to restore 25 percent of a stamina chunk when you hit with a Charged Shot.

Additionally, Hermes (who definitely didn't move them) tasks Fenyx with finding Relics of the Gods and returning them to the Pantheon. These have been placed in chests hidden in the Vaults, and require players complete a puzzle to find them. Also new are Pure Adamantine Shards, which replace the various upgrade materials of the base game and allow players to upgrade their weapons, armor and helmets. In addition to being a reward for completing trials, these can also be found and collected from clusters in the Pantheon.
