Marvel Comics provided CBR with an exclusive preview of Immortal X-Men #1, by writer Kieron Gillen, artist Lucas Werneck and colorist David Curiel. In the preview, Irene Adler/Destiny approaches Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister in a way that mirrors a key event in mutant history.

CBR's preview of Immortal X-Men opens with Mister Sinister in Paris just after the end of World War I. Destiny, whose power is precognition, approaches him and warns of a coming war, and Mister Sinister declares that he intends to be on the winning side. While Destiny knows Mister Sinister is evil, she believes they should be on the same side. Destiny then whispers something in Mister Sinister's ear that surprises him. What she says, though, isn't revealed in the preview.

The entire sequence mirrors one from 2019's Powers of X #1, by writer Jonathan Hickman, artists R.B. Silva and Adriano Di Benedetto, colorist Marte Gracia and letterer VC's Clayton Cowles. Part of the "Dawn of X" relaunch, Powers of X #1 opened with Moira MacTaggert approaching Charles Xavier/Professor X while he was on a bench and telling him about the various lifetimes she'd experienced. She did this so they could manipulate and change the future. In addition to the content of the conversation being similar, Mister Sinister and Destiny's talk is also paneled in a way that mirrors what happened in Powers of X.

Announced in December, Immortal X-Men focuses on Krakoa's Quiet Council and the drama and politics informing their struggle over the mutant nation. Immortal X-Men is part of "Destiny of X," which is meant to relaunch Marvel's line of mutant-centered comics in a way similar to House of X/Powers of X. New titles in the relaunch include, among others, Knights of X and Legion of X. In an interview with CBR, Gillen teased Immortal X-Men delving more into Mister Sinister's betrayal of Krakoa.
