In The Immortal Hulk #40, Doc Samson and Joe Fixit have escaped their personal prisons and returned to the land of the living in surprising new forms.

Since his most recent death, Doc Samson has been trapped in the netherworld known as the Below-Place, the realm of the monstrous and evil One-Below-All. During the Leader's assault on the Hulk and his allies, Doc Samson was quickly killed. But while most gamma-empowered beings are resurrected by their natural connection to the Green Doors, the Leader shut Doc Samson's own Green Door, keeping him from being able to return to the real world. After attacking a distracted Leader and escaping his grasp, Samson was able to find another Green Door to make it back to the land of the living.

However, this door didn't lead to his own body. Instead, it gives him the chance to take over the comatose body of the former Alpha-Flight hero, Sasquatch, which was being held on the Alpha Flight Space Station. This turns the typically orange hero green, and his mane becomes the same shade of green as Doc Samson's distinctive green hair. Samson quickly dubs his new form "Doc Sasquatch," and adjusts to his new form. Although this initially unsettles Sasquatch's old pal Puck, it does allow Doc Samson to inform the other heroes of what has become of the Below-Place and the machinations of the Leader. This could help rally Hulk's allies to try and help him fight back against the Leader and the One-Below-All.

Meanwhile, the Bruce Banner and Devil Hulk personas have been ripped out of the Hulk by the Leader, who uses their presence in the Below-Place to help and give the One-Below-All the ability to create the body he needs to destroy the entire universe. This has left Joe Fixit and the Savage Hulk personas trapped in the withered body of the Hulk, with their physical form held in containment by an unwitting Alpha Flight. However, Joe Fixit is able to figure out how to escape that mental plane through one of the Immortal Hulk's most brutal new powers.

By sending his consciousness into the Hulk's comatose body, Joe Fixit is able to essentially force a transformation, ripping apart the Hulk's body and creating a new body for himself.

By bursting out of his counterpart's skin and walking around in a new form, it's the reverse of what the Hulk has previously done to Bruce Banner in this series. This also allows Joe to escape the constraints that were holding back the Hulk and take his captors by surprise, which Joe the chance to knock them out and make his escape. It's a shocking display of power from Joe Fixit that suggests that the craftiest Hulk might have some tricks still up his sleeve, which could help stop the Leader and the One-Below-All from ending this universe and the next.
