Ahead of its release, Image Comics has posted the first cover to its upcoming series Crossover. The cover is illustrated by series artist Geoff Shaw and features a reader cracking over an issue of Crossover. However, this results in a storm of lights that quite literally melts the reader's face off. Crossover reunites Shaw with writer Donny Cates, colorist Dee Cunniffe and letterer/designer John J. Hill. The creative team previously worked on the critically acclaimed series God Country; they reunited for the "Thanos Wins" storyline and "The Final Gauntlet" in Guardians of the Galaxy for Marvel Comics.
The plot of Crossover remains unknown. Cates has described it as an "Anti-Event" and posted the following statement on Twitter: "Superheroes aren't myths...they're viruses...and they're spreading." Based on these statements and the cover art, it looks like Crossover will play with the conventions of superhero comics; in particular, the crossover events that have become commonplace.
More details about Crossover will be revealed at a Comic-Con@Home Panel this Thursday at 5 pm. Cates, Shaw, Cunniffe and Hill will be in attendance to discuss the series and share exclusive content.
Crossover #1 by Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe and John J. Hill goes on sale in November from Image Comics.
