ORANGE, CA -- October 14, 2004 -- "A child's instinctual need for thecomfort of a stuffed animal is rooted in a reality long forgotten by theadult world. The hidden truth is that these companions have been defendingchildren since the dawn of time."
With those words, creator Mike Bullock kicks off his new four-issuemini-series, LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS, debuting in January from Image Comics.Created and written by Runemaster Studios' Bullock, with pencils, inks andcolors by studio partner Jack Lawrence, LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS is afour-issue mini-series that critics have dubbed "Monsters Inc. meets TheLion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."
The series revolves around young Joey Price as he discovers that the noiseshe hears at night aren't just figments of his imagination. Those noises comefrom the monstrous Beasties, who spend every night trying to "get" littlechildren. Luckily for Joey, his stuffed animals are more than he everthought they were, as they come to life to defend him from the Beastieperils. Follow young Joey on the adventure of a lifetime as he travelsthrough the Stuffed Animal Kingdom, a journey that puts the fate of all theworld's children in his hands and brings him face-to-face with his destiny.
"I really wanted to create something timeless with this story, somethinganyone of any age could enjoy today, a year from today, ten years fromtoday," says Bullock. "Hopefully, Jack and I have done just that."
LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS was first previewed at the San Diego Comic-ConInternational in July of 2004. After receiving several offers from variouspublishers, Bullock met with Image publisher Erik Larsen and asked Larsen tolook through the promotional kit. Larsen was quick to jump on the all-agesbook, and wasted no time in snatching up the property for Image Comics.
