Image announces new Ennis title, to publish Linsner library

Official Press Release

ORANGE, CA -- 23 August. 2001 -- Among the many announcements at the well attended WizardWorld: Chicago convention (August 17-19) was Image's confirmation that they will be publishing a prestige format one-shot called PRO early next year. The Adults Only title will be written by Garth Ennis, penciled by Amanda Conner, and inked by Jimmy Palmiotti. It is the first Adults Only title for the company since publisher Jim Valentino's own VIGNETTES: The Autobiographical Comix of Valentino. Conner and Palmiotti joked "We plan on keeping the CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) working for years." PRO will tell the story of a super-powered prostitute. The creative team has promised that this book will "go way over the edge."

Also announced by Image was their intention to publish the Joe Michael Linsner Library. This would consist of graphic novels of all of Linsner's works including a remastered version of the second DAWN series (never before in graphic novel format), The Art of Joe Michael Linsner, a high-end art book of Linsner's body of work, and a new Dawn series. "The Linsner Library will be a long-term project," said publisher Valentino. "We intend to make the works of this important creator available to his fans and keep it available for retailers to sell."

Valentino noted that while these two projects are adult oriented they do not signal a return to "good girl" comics for the company. "Pro is a satire. Ennis is one of comics' premiere authors and he promises that this piece will be nothing short of blistering. Linsner is an intelligent writer whose art is far closer to Vargas in terms of it's style, grace and quality than to the tawdry titillation books of the past. Image Central remains focused on a wide diversity of product from exceptional creators. We believe these projects and these creators fit that bill." More details will follow as the books get closer to their actual publication.

Image Comics was founded in 1992 when seven of the most popular creators in the comic book field joined forces to create a Haven for creator-owned properties. Today the company is divided into three autonomous and independent publishing entities: Todd McFarlane Productions, Top Cow, and Image Central.
