Image Comics recently announced Two Moons, a new horror comic from writer John Arcudi that takes place during the American Civil War. Its title character Two Moons/Virgil Morris is a Native American from the Pawnee Nation who serves in the Union Army.

Arcudi revealed that he wrote Two Moons because he wanted to shed some light on such a man facing new and old demons, in an interview with THR.

"Two Moons is a book I’ve been trying to write for years," Arcudi said. "It's a horror/action story first and foremost, but it's more than that for me and, I hope, for the reader. The complicated history of indigenous peoples during the 19th century was what inspired me to take this story on and we explore some of that through the eyes of a young Pawnee man as he grows to learn more about his place in the world."

"And Valerio Giangiordano is absolutely killing it on the art!" He added. "Could not have asked for a better collaborator on this gorgeous book. I’m excited to see this finally get out of my head and into readers' hands."

Giangiordano, whose previous work includes covers for Ghost Rider, Hellions, Jessica Jones, Punisher, Savage Avengers and Taskmaster, will illustrate Two Moon's cover and its interior art. The variant cover for #1 is created by Gerardo Zaffino.

Written by John Arcudi and illustrated by Valerio Giangiordano, Two Moons #1 goes on sale on Feb. 24 from Image Comics.
