IDW Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shadows of the Past, a miniatures-based board game in which players fight to save -- or conquer -- New York City.

The crowdfunding effort has already generated more than $167,000 of its initial $250,000 goal.

Designed by Kevin Wilson (Descent, Arkham Horror) , the scenario-driven game will feature story content from IDW Publishing's Ninja Turtles comic, with two to five players working their way through a series of 60- to 90-minute missions. They'll be able to develop their characters strengths, fighting styles and equipment as they progress.

Campaign supporters can choose between two versions of the game (both featuring exclusive boxes and content): the Kickstarter-exclusive box, and the "Works Edition," which features four exclusive TMNT miniatures based on Kevin Eastman's art style. Once the game meets its $250,000 funding goal, all backers will gain the ability to play not only as the Turtles but also April O'Neil.
