SAN DIEGO, CA – He’s a detective who hunts monsters.
He’s a drunk and drug addict. He’s Cal McDonald and he’s everything you need
to flush out what lurks in the shadows.
The world of Savage Membrane is much like our own, except it’s shared with
monsters, ghouls and freaks. But even in this world, the average American
can’t easily spot these strange creatures. They walk in the guise of your
mailman, taxi driver or the guy sitting next to you on the bus. But Cal can
see them. He knows them and he hunts down the ones that commit terrible
crimes against the human race. Crimes like sucking the gray matter from human
skulls. Even in a world with monsters, there must be rules.
Cal McDonald and the illustrated novel, Savage Membrane, are created by noted
horror writer Steve Niles, whose most recent credits include Hellspawn and
Spawn: The Dark Ages. Niles started out as a writer at a young age by
adapting and bringing the works of Clive Barker and Richard Matheson to the
world of comics. He is joined on Savage Membrane by award-winning and noted
painter/illustrator Ashley Wood. Wood’s recent art book Uno Fanta: The Art Of
Ashley Wood has stirred up a buzz among art lovers around the world. He’s
well known for his innovative work on various Spawn books and covers and his
current work includes The X-Men for Marvel Comics and PopBot for Idea and

Savage Membrane, I had the chance to do what hard-boiled fiction does best –
get inside the head of the character and let him tell the story,” said writer

Savage Membrane will be published by Idea + Design Works in March 2002. It’s
