Despite early rumors, "Luther" star Idris Elba apparently won't play a Klingon if he signs on to "Star Trek 3."

"That’s not true," actor and co-writer Simon Pegg replied when asked about the rumor by Absolute Radio. "No, no, no. [...] I heard there's a rumor he's been spoken to about stuff, so he may be in the film, but he won't be a Klingon." He laughed and added, "Or maybe he will."

It's worth remembering he insisted in 2012 that Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan in "Star Trek Into Darkness," so perhaps we should take the denial with a grain of salt.

On the other hand, TrekMovie's Jared Whitley speculates that Elba will play scientist Richard Daystrom from the 1968 "Star Trek" episode "The Ultimate Computer."

Opening July 8, 2016, "Star Trek 3" features returning cast members Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin.
