Luther star Idris Elba will head up a new racing series for the Discovery Channel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tentatively titled The Idris Elba Project, the four-part series comes from Discovery Networks U.K. and will follow the actor as he tries his hand at rally-driving, street-racing, aerobatics and power-boating; Elba will also learn about the history and science behind each sport.

"I'm taking on the toughest racing challenges of my life for this new Discovery TV series," Elba said in a statement. "Along the way, I'll meet extraordinary individuals, spectacular machines and hear amazing stories of how far people go to satisfy their love of speed. The extreme challenges will take me right out of my comfort zone as I compete against the best on land, water and in the air."

Elba last year hosted the BBC2 series Idris Elba: King of Speed, in which he explored the underground racing scene around the globe.

The Idris Elba Project will be produced by Shine North and Elba's Green Door Pictures. The series will shoot in Florida, California and the United Kingdom, and is expected to air in mid-2015.
