Idris Elba is back as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther for a fifth season of the acclaimed British crime series and the BBC has released an intense trailer providing a first look at the upcoming season.
Season 5 of Luther has the titular lawman team up with a new partner with Catherine Halliday as a new serial killer stalks the streets of London. And as the murders intensify, Luther's old homicidal companion Alice Morgan reenters the British detective's life.

A fifth season of the popular series was officially greenlit by the BBC last year with principal photography occurring on location in London at the beginning of the year. Earlier, Elba hinted that the fifth season of Luther may not be the series last which was corroborated by series creator and writer Neil Cross.
As for what this season entails, a new villain wearing a creepy mask straight out of a Purge movie menaces the citizens of London with only John Luther able to stop him from adding to his victim count.
