Idris Elba Returns As 'Luther' in One-Night Special

Idris Elba will return to his acclaimed role as Detective Chief Inspector John Luther in a one-night special event airing Dec. 17 on BBC America.

Written by Neil Cross and directed by Sam Miller, the "Luther" special finds Elba's detective on a leave of absence from the police force, laying low in a rundown cottage. But a visit from colleagues, Detective Chief Inspector Theo Bloom (Darren Boyd) and Detective Sergeant Emma Lane (Rose Leslie) brings shocking news that draws him back to London in search of the truth. At the same time, a gruesome cannibalistic serial killer has struck the city, eating body parts as he goes, leading to Luther's triumphant return to the Bullpen to help capture the murdering mastermind.

Also starring Dermot Crowley, Laura Haddock, John Hefferna, Patrick Malahide and Michael Smiley, the "Luther" special airs Thursday, Dec. 17, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America.
