Idris Elba in Talks to Play Villain in 'Star Trek 3'

"Luther" star Idris Elba is early negotiations to play the villain in director Justin Lin's "Star Trek 3," Variety reports.

The "Thor" actor, who will next be seen in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," would join returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin. The film is set for release July 8, 2016.

Details of Elba's roles are of course under wraps. However, the website notes the Klingons have long been rumored as the antagonists in the sequel, written by Pegg and Doug Jung .

Elba has a busy schedule ahead of him, including a "Luther" miniseries, the Discovery Channel's "The Idris Elba Project," "Beasts of No Nation" and "The Jungle Book."
