As strong as The Wire is, it's sort of incredible that we don't see more high-profile gigs for the lead actors from that drama Wendell Pierce has leveraged himself a sweet role in the upcoming B.B. King biopic, but he's just been upped by Idris Elba, who played Stringer Bell on the hit HBO TV series (and Heimdall in Thor).
Elba is rumored to be vying with Will Smith for one of the leads in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, but now The Wrap reports that eyes are on him for a lead role in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming monster movie Pacific Rim as well. Also said to be up for a starring spot is Charlie Hunnam, star of the TV series Sons of Anarchy.
Elba will next be seen in Prometheus, the Alien spinoff/prequel/whatever that Ridley Scott is pulling together with Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron starring. He'll also be seen next year in the sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, starring alongside Nic Cage.
