The Suicide Squad actor Idris Elba and Deadpool 2 director David Leitch are officially joining forces for a new Netflix spy thriller called Bang!.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the new film is based on the Dark Horse comic series by Matt Kindt, Wilfredo Torres, Nayoung Kim, and Nate Piekos. Kindt will adapt the film alongside screenwriter Zak Olkewicz. Produced by Elba, Leitch, 87 North's Kelly McCormick, and Dark Horse's Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, Bang! will follow a terrorist cult that attempts to bring forth the apocalypse using a brainwashing novel series. Unluckily for them, a decorated spy (Elba) will stop at nothing to put an end to their evil scheme.

Prior to Bang!, Dark Horse Entertainment and Netflix teamed up to produce 2019's Polar and the animated series Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles. The companies also collaborated on the popular adaptation of The Umbrella Academy, which saw its third season released in June.

Bang! isn't the only comic-based project Elba has up his sleeve at the moment. Regarding his role in DC's The Suicide Squad as Bloodsport, he said in 2021, "I'm excited about the possibilities in the DC world." Elba also expressed an interest in returning to the role of Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite the character's on-screen death. "I think that the constraints of the superhero universe are none, so everything is possible, and I think that Heimdall is an amazing character and still exists." Elba recently made a cameo as Heimdall in a Thor: Love and Thunder post-credits sequence. The scene takes place in Valhalla, which confirmed that the character is still present in the MCU, albeit not currently in the mortal realm.

Another film in the works starring Elba is Universal Pictures' Beast, in which he is slated to battle a bloodthirsty lion. The film is inspired by a story from Jaime Primak-Sullivan and will be directed by 2 Guns' Baltasar Kormakur with a script by Ryan Engle.

The actor is also reportedly in talks for a new James Bond project. According to an insider in June, "Idris has been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond's story and last year was being considered for the role as an antagonist." The source continued, explaining that "talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research." Elba has been a consistent favorite among Bond fans to take up the mantle of 007.

Bang! will be released on Netflix but doesn't yet have an official release date.
