Idris Elba says one of his upcoming projects will be a return to the DC universe.

Journalist Erik Davis posted on Twitter about an interview he had with Elba. "I just spoke with Idris Elba about his new film Beast," he said. "I asked what we’ll see him in next - a Marvel project or DC, and he said DC. He said he's got a really big thing cooking for DC right now."

In addition to playing the Norse god Heimdall across the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Thor franchise, Elba has appeared in two DC adaptations: The Losers in 2010 and The Suicide Squad in 2021. Currently, writer/director James Gunn is following up the success of Peacemaker with another Suicide Squad spinoff. The details are currently being kept under wraps, but rumors indicate that it will prominently feature Amanda Waller and/or Gaius Grieves/The Thinker.

In The Suicide Squad, Elba starred as Robert DuBois/Bloodsport, a deadly assassin equipped with a vast arsenal of expanding weapons. Elba has stated his interest in exploring the event that got Bloodsport locked up in Belle Reve in the first place: shooting Superman with a kryptonite bullet. "It wouldn't be next, it would be what came before. I would be really interested to see why he went to jail, why did he shoot Superman," Elba said. "I would love to see that narrative come alive."

Another comic book project Elba is currently developing is Bang!, based on the Dark Horse series by Matt Kindt, Wilfredo Torres, Nayoung Kim, and Nate Piekos. Elba will star as a decorated spy who has to stop a terrorist cult from bringing forth the apocalypse using a brainwashing novel series. Additionally, Elba will be a producer on the film, with Hobbs and Shaw director David Leitch helming the project and Kindt writing the screenplay alongside Zak Olkewicz. Bang! will stream on Netflix, though it doesn't yet have a release date.

Elba has also met with Eon Films about joining the next entry in the James Bond series, possibly taking over the role as Agent 007 himself now that Daniel Craig has finished his tenure. According to an insider, "Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist. However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research. He ranked highly among the diverse group of movie buffs invited to participate in it. They didn’t want to see him as a nemesis, they want him as the hero."
