It's been awhile since we've seen any cops with a good heart and a hairtrigger temper cleaning up the streets, but if Ice Cube has his way, we won't have to wait too long until he's bringing that old chestnut back to the big screen... with a little help from an old friend.

Deadline is reporting that Cube and his Three Kings director David O. Russell are in talks with New Line to create a suitably violent R-rated homage to 1970s franchises like Dirty Harry and Death Wish. The initial idea was Russell's, but it's uncertain whether he'll write the project or merely direct and co-produce with Cube, who will of course star as the movie's lead, a plain-clothes detective who's quick on the draw. No date has been projected for the project's start as of yet.
