Ian McShane Cast As The King In Singer's Jack The Giant Killer

Ian McShane, who's set to steal scenes as Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, will trade a tricorne for a crown in Bryan Singer's fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Killer.

Heat Vision reports the actor will play King Brahmwell in the retelling of the traditional “Jack and the Beanstalk” tale that centers on a mission to rescue a kidnapped princess, a crisis that threatens the uneasy peace between giants and men.

McShane joins a cast that includes Nicholas Hoult as the titular farm boy, Eleanor Tomlinson as Princess Isabella, Ewan McGregor as leader of the king's guard, Stanley Tucci as the king's villainous adviser, and Bill Nighy and John Kassir as the two-headed leader of the giants. According to The Hollywood Reporter blog, McShane's king is "none too thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy."

A veteran film and television actor whose career stretches back to the early 1960s, McShane is perhaps best known in the U.K. for his portrayal of the title character in Lovejoy and in the U.S. for his turn as Al Swearengen in Deadwood.
