It takes a lot to scare you in comics, but U.K. cartoonist Iain Laurie is doing just that with his creepy drawings in the new one-man anthology Horror Mountain. This 22-page minicomic, published by Graphic Eye, serves as a showcase for Laurie’s tortured yet humorous comic strips and one-off drawings. Laurie’s drawn heavy praise from the likes of Jeff Lemire, Nick Abadzis and Frank Quitely, the latter going so far as to say “if ugliness, creepiness and surreal comedy sold books, this would be a best seller.”

Laurie covers everything from a stoic four-panel strip titled “Fuck FF Space Monkey” to the all-too-germaine “Customer Service,” which shows a call-center representative going one step too far. The book reminds me a bit of the very early work of Quitely while he was on the Scottish underground scene, with some very gripping humor to go with your horror.

Graphic Eye is selling Horror Mountain as a $1 digital download or $3 for a paper edition.
