I Love Ya But You're Strange - That Time Jimmy Olsen Had to Make Superman Cry to Gain Super Powers

Every installment of I Love Ya But You’re Strange I spotlight strange but ultimately endearing comic stories. Here is the archive of all the installments of this feature. Feel free to e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com if you have a suggestion for a future installment!

Today we look at the time Jimmy Olsen needed Superman to cry for Jimmy to gain some super powers...

First off, check out the awesome cover for the issue...

The story was written by Leo Dorfman and was drawn by Pete Costanza. The gist of the story is that Jimmy comes across the last volume of Nostradamus...

Jimmy DID have a bit of a tendency to get greedy at times.

So he goes to work for a king as a chef, serving him lots of spicy foods, but it doesn't work. The king loves the spicy food! But hs daughter loves Jimmy...

That is so creepy looking, Jimmy sucking up the puddle of tears.

Next, he goes to a circus where Batman is attending as a guard of a rich lady. One of the clowns, though, attacks Batman and tries to steal the jewels! Luckily, Jimmy is an expert at using the batarang (?!)...

You have to love Batman's reaction here..."Oh, sure, sucking up people's tears as a new hobby. Makes sense to me."

Jimmy then travels to where a political assassin is about to be executed...

Surprisingly intense stuff.

The executioner's face is always well hidden, but it is also sometimes tear-stained!

Geez, Jimmy, how about a little more empathy there?!

Jimmy enlists Superman's help, and Jimmy continues to be a jerk about it all...

Sadly for Jimmy, Superman had recently watched a lot of old Kryptonian films and was sort of cried out. Jimmy wouldn't stop there, though...

Oh, Jimmy, always doing dumb stuff.
