Omega-Level mutants are among the most powerful beings in the Marvel Comics Universe. From X-Men like Iceman -- who could create an extinction-level event on any given planet if their powers went awry -- to the unmatched regenerative healing abilities of Elixir, these beings have powers far beyond other heroes like the Fantastic Four. As such, there are only a small number of these mutants compared to the overall number of powered individuals in the universe. Omega-Level mutants are rare, revered and not to be trifled with.

But even among other Omega-Level mutants, Franklin Richards stands out. As the son of Reed and Sue Richards, Franklin can control the very fabric of the universe. Mutant parents often make mutant children, and in one timeline, Franklin had a child with the X-Men's Rachel Summers, a powerful telepath in her own right. Unfortunately for the Marvel Universe, this mix of reality-manipulation and psychic prowess created an even stronger mutant named Hyperstorm.

In the reality where Hyperstorm was born, the long-time enemies of mutantkind, the Sentinels, had ravaged the Earth. While Hyperstorm would grow up to defeat the Sentinels, he brought worlds under his heel as the robots once did. Jonathan Reed Richards may have shared a surname with his family on the Fantastic Four, but he was devoid of the virtues shown by his family before him. However, he did retain their genius intellect.

When he debuted in Tom DeFalco and Paul Ryan's Fantastic Four #406 in 1995, Jonathan possessed what he referred to as the Supreme Power, which afforded him many abilities. He was able to influence the fundamental forces that make up the universe, using his vast psionic power to bend them to his will. Internally, he could also augment his own physiology with enhanced strength, speed, and even invisibility. If that wasn't enough to try and overcome, the villain possessed all the powers of a high-end telepath, teleportation, and advanced healing capabilities.

Reed Richard's time-traveling father, Nathaniel, happened upon Hyperstorm, and set out to protect the timeline from his evil. He used his abilities to move through time, trying various plots against Hyperstorm. Nathaniel helped the Invisible Woman better harness her powers and brought a young Franklin Richards to Hyperstorm's time, under the moniker of Psi-Lord, to take on the despot. However, the evil Jonathan countered this by enlisting the help of a time-traveling villain known as Tomorrow Man.

Hyperstorm and Tomorrow Man proved to be an incredible threat, forcing the Fantastic Four to team up with Doctor Doom. Although the villains were able to separate Mr. Fantastic from his team and Doom by abandoning him in a time with no technology. The Fantastic Four and Reed would reunite later but they lost the assistance of Dr. Doom. Victor tried to siphon Hyperstorm's power for himself, but found that Jonathan had been toying with him and simply returned him to his correct timeline, enraging Doom.

Hyperstorm fantastic four

In an odd and rather egotistical act, Hyperstorm also sent the Fantastic Four back to their correct timeline. It would seem he simply wanted them to know of his power and to taunt them from a potential future. This only entrenched the team in their determination to stop Jonathan Richards. The heroes devised a plan to retrieve their nemesis Galactus to counteract the power of Hyperstorm. When he learned of the plot, Hyperstorm arrived in their time to prevent this but found he was too late.

Galactus emerged, hungering for the sustenance he had been denied in his nullified state. The Eater of Worlds saw Hyperstorm's power and decided that it would be more than enough to sustain him. While the two beings battled, pitting their immense powers against one another, they were being drawn back into the nullifying void. Galactus managed to pull the villainous Hyperstorm into the void and finally defeated the Fantastic Four's most powerful foe.
