After losing out on acquiring copies of Greed Island at the Southernpiece Auction to the rich Battera, Gon and Killua decide to pursue an alternative route and ask Battera and his assistant Tsezguerra if they can enter the game for them. Tsezguerra refuses, telling them to come back when they have improved their Nen abilities.

Upon their return, they go to the examination room and are asked to demonstrate their abilities one by one. Both Killua and Gon impress Tzezguerra with their overall improvements, with Gon showing his Enhancement Nen ability and breaking a wall, smashing through it, and earning a place in the game.

Upon joining the game and being introduced to the main concepts and difficulties surrounding completing the game, they are invited to join an alliance. This would have been the smartest choice due to the safety, security, and decreased workload that comes with being a part of a team, but Gon refuses.

Gon's determination to do things the right way rather than the easy way is sometimes questioned by Killua, but he still accepts and admires the decision. Their potential teammates appear to be initially shocked by the decision, but it labels Gon as a formidable player and potential opponent.

Shortly after they meet the almighty Biscuit, the three of them are pursued by a Blacklist Hunter named Binolt. Biscuit devises a plan to have Gon and Killua leave her, causing Binolt to lower his guard and attack Biscuit, with him being easily defeated by her.

Biscuit takes advantage of the situation by insisting that they all stay and train, with Binolt given the incentive of freedom if he is able to avoid Gon and Killua's attacks. With the duo once again improving at an alarming rate due to intense training, Binolt surrenders on day 10. Despite Biscuit's initial conditions, Gon insists that Binolt be let go, due to him helping them with their training. Surprised and touched by Gon's words, Binolt promises to turn himself in.

Under the watchful eye and instruction of Biscuit, Gon and Killua continue to train hard in order to get stronger. In the process, they both begin to show signs of progress regarding their signature moves. Killua focuses on electricity and Gon chooses the ambitious and bizarre basis of rock, paper, scissors, with each representing different types of Nen - Enhancement, Emission, and Transmutation respectively.

While the other two moves are not within his reach at this point, Gon shows that his Rock is already strong and has further potential, impressing both Biscuit and Killua.

The battle with the Soufrabi Pirates was somewhat drawn out, but it was of high importance due to the necessity of obtaining the "Plot Of Beach" card. After the various sporting contests, including them failing and finding stronger teammates for the task, the formidable Razor suggests an 8-on-8 dodgeball match.

This is one of the most intense sporting matches in anime, with Razor quickly demonstrating how lethal his strikes can be, brutally destroying one of Goreinu's apes and incapacitating Tsezguerra. Gon is Razor's next target, but, miraculously, Gon manages to perfect his Ko and block it. Although he saved himself from harm, the strength and power of the shot still took him out of the match. The fact that he survived it unscathed impressed everyone.

As per the rules, Gon uses Back to return to the intense game of dodgeball as the numbers on both teams begin to dwindle. With the help of Killua, Gon puts his Enhancement Nen to good use. Despite taking a toll on Killua's hands when he is holding the ball for Gon, they continue to use this technique, eliminating another of Razor's Devils and causing Razor himself some difficulty.

Gon, Killua, and Hisoka band together to brace for a deadly shot from Razor, and, on their return, Gon unleashes an even more powerful Janken, wiping himself out in the process but impressing Razor nonetheless. Razor returns it, but Hisoka uses Bungee Gum to return it once more to earn them the win. It was Gon's powerful strikes that added extra momentum to the ball and secured the victory.

4 Gon Eventually Outsmarted And Overpowered Genthru

Biscuit, Gon, and Killua devise a clever plan to separate Genthru from his partners, Sub and Bara, limiting everyone to 1-on-1 fights. Gon's task is to keep Genthru busy while avoiding his dangerous offensive moves and lead him into a trap. However, Gon takes offense to Genthru not unleashing his full power on him and engages him in a full-on battle, even sacrificing an arm in the process.

Ultimately, Gon does still succeed in luring Genthru into a trap, using Janken on the ground to make a pit, causing a large rock to descend onto Genthru. When Genthru dodges, Gon hits him with one final powerful strike to knock him out. Gon was able to execute the plan while getting the respect from Genthru that he wanted.

3 Gon Insisted On Healing The Bad Guys Despite Everything That Happened

Once Gon has been healed by "Angel's Breath," Gon insists that Bara, Genthru, and Sub are also healed. Goreinu disapproves of this move, considering all of the bad things that the trio have done, but once again, Gon tries to see the good in everybody and wants to give them another chance at life.

Biscuit and Killua back Gon up with this decision, with everyone once again admiring Gon's kind heart and refusal to kill mindlessly, no matter what the other party may have done.

2 Gon Won The Greed Island Quiz And Obtained The Final Card

When Goreinu gives Gon all of his cards, Gon has obtained 99 cards, triggering an end-game event that allows players to compete in a Greed Island Quiz to obtain the final card, #0.

All of the questions are related to the cards, their properties and general details. Gon manages to get the most correct, wining the quiz and completing the collection of cards and the game. Intellect and quizzes are not necessarily Gon's forte, but in these circumstances, he had learned about the cards during their adventures and everything fell into place.

1 Gon Outsmarted The System When Choosing His Prizes

Having won and completed Greed Island, Gon has earned his prize of materializing three cards of his choosing. He chooses "Blue Planet" for Biscuit, as they had previously promised to help her get the jewel. The other two choices are where Gon uses his brain to smartly find a loophole.

"Paladin's Necklace" allows the user to reflect or undo curses, and it just so happens that Gon had already transformed an "Accompany" into "Plot of Beach." Gon simply uses the necklace to give them a real "Accompany" item, allowing Gon and Killua to teleport to the alleged location of Ging.
