Gon Freecss is the main protagonist of the Hunter x Hunter series. Known to have limitless potential, Gon is already an extremely strong Hunter, despite being just a rookie. Even the strongest of Hunters, such as Netero, have noticed his potential.
By the end of the series, Gon will grow to be one of the strongest known characters, and in doing so, he'll surpass many powerful Hunters who are currently levels above him. Here are 5 Hunter x Hunter characters Gon Freecss will surpass by the end and 5 that he won't.
10 Will Surpass: Morel
Morel is a veteran Hunter who made his appearance in the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter. According to Netero, he is one of the most powerful and efficient Hunters out there.
Although Morel doesn't have tremendous physical ability, he makes up for it by strategizing and using his Nen in the most efficient manner. Unfortunately, Morel doesn't have a bottomless pit of talent like Gon, which means the latter is going to surpass him in time.
9 Won't Surpass: Killua
Killua is an assassin of the Zoldyck family and Gon's best friend. Like Gon, Killua is known to have tremendous potential as well. The two have always worked together and consequently, gotten stronger at an equal rate.
Just like Gon, Killua will grow to be tremendously powerful by the end of the Hunter x Hunter series. It is highly likely that the two will be on par with each other.
8 Will Surpass: Neferpitou
One of the Royal Guard of Meruem and easily among the strongest characters in Hunter x Hunter, Neferpitou was an extremely powerful Chimera Ant. They were powerful enough to defeat Kite, a seasoned Hunter.
According to Colt, the Royal Guards held strength greater than that of Netero as well. However, in his adult form, Gon was able to defeat Pitou without much trouble. That's a clear indication that he'll surpass them by the end.
7 Won't Surpass: Netero
Netero was the 12th Chairman of the Hunter Association and one of the strongest characters in the series. In his prime, he was known to be the strongest Hunter in the world. According to Meruem, Netero's skill surpassed all human limitations.
Strong as Gon may get, it is highly unlikely for him to surpass the likes of Netero in terms of fighting ability. Furthermore, Netero was also a much smarter fighter.
6 Will Surpass: Shaiapouf
Another one of the Royal Guard of the Chimera Ant King, Shaiapouf was known to be the smartest of the three. His skills were also quite diverse and he proved to be overwhelming even for the likes of Morel in battle.
While Shaiapouf was strong, in terms of physical ability, he was likely the weakest of the three. Gon, who absolutely overwhelmed Pitou, will definitely surpass him by the end.
5 Won't Surpass: Meruem
Meruem was the King of the Chimera Ants and the strongest known character in the series. Even someone as strong as Netero didn't stand a chance against him in battle, which just goes to show his superiority over the human race.
Gon, while powerful, wasn't on the same level even in his adult form. According to Pitou, he could become a threat to Meruem, however, following the Aura Synthesis with Shaiapouf and Menthuthuyoupi, Meruem got even stronger, effectively putting him leagues above anyone.
4 Will Surpass: Menthuthuyoupi
Menthuthuyoupi was the last one of the Royal Guard to be born and just like the other two, he was tremendously powerful. Youpi was known to have the highest physical strength of the three, being a terrific Enhancer.
Although he gave multiple powerful Nen users a hard time, he wouldn't stand much of a chance against prime Gon, knowing how easily he defeated Pitou.
3 Won't Surpass: Maha Zoldyck
Maha Zoldyck is one of the legendary figures in the Hunter x Hunter world. He is believed to be the strongest Zoldyck to ever live. It is said that nobody who fought him lived, except for Isaac Netero.
Maha was clearly on the same level as prime Netero, if not stronger. Someone as strong as him would surely be stronger than Gon, even if the latter is close to his prime.
2 Will Surpass: Knuckle
Knuckle is one of the students of Morel and quite an adept Nen user. Although he appears to be a muscle-headed fighter, he is very calm and calculating in a fight. During the Chimera Ant arc, Knuckle was able to defeat Gon without much trouble.
However, when compared to Gon in his prime, it is hard to imagine that Knuckle will be able to put up any sort of a fight against him.
1 Won't Surpass: Kurapika
Kurapika is an exceptionally strong Nen user, just like Gon and Killua. He excels at Conjuration based techniques, however, once his Scarlet Eyes awaken, he gains full affinity with the other Nen types as well.
Kurapika progresses with Gon and Killua and is just as strong as them, if not stronger. It goes without saying that he'll be around the same level by the end as well.
