Gon Freecss is the main protagonist of Hunter X Hunter. Despite his initial inexperience and lack of knowledge about how Hunters work, especially when trying to pass the Hunter Exam, he quickly adapted and became a better Hunter and a fighter along the way. His growth was proven when he got strong enough to land a solid punch on Hisoka's face during the Heavens Arena arc, when he learned Nen, and when he fought the incredibly powerful Chimera Ants during the Chimera Ant arc.

Despite his incredible growth, there are some anime fighters who could still beat Gon, and others who Gon likely has already surpassed. From Goku to Azusa, these fighters could still beat Gon in battle despite his experience and strength — or else they'd be outpaced by him completely.

10 Stronger: Goku Is Still Too Overpowered For Gon To Beat (Dragon Ball Z)

Goku from Dragon Ball is far too powerful for Gon to beat, despite Gon's growth so far in Hunter X Hunter. He just has too wide a variety of abilities for Gon to beat in general. Goku having the Godly ki, for example, means he can use the Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue transformations to take down enemies. He can also fly, sense other beings, and heal them as well. Gon is nowhere near capable enough to match Goku in battle.

9 Weaker: Gon Can Take Akira Shiroyanagi Out Faster Than He Could Manipulate Gon (Battle Game In 5 Seconds)

Akira Shiroyanagi Battle In 5 Seconds

Akira Shiroyanagi from Battle Game in 5 Seconds is gifted with the ability to have any skill he wants — as long as he can persuade his opponent that he has it. Considering that Gon is an action-first, words-later type of fighter, it would way too easy for Gon to just take out Akira in battle before Akira could say anything.

Additionally, even if Akira managed to persuade Gon that he has specific abilities, Gon is too adaptable and determined to let his opponents beat him just because they wield specific weapons. They might have a close match, depending on what abilities Akira persuaded Gon into thinking he has, but Gon would give Akira a run for his money.

8 Stronger: Levi Could Overpower Him With His Military Might (Attack On Titan)

Despite Gon's best efforts, it's highly likely that he wouldn't be able to beat Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan. Levi is known as humanity's strongest soldier in his respective series, and he has a lot of combat experience leading military troops.

Much of his experience also included taking down actual Titans, who are fearsome and creepy foes themselves. Even with Gon using his Nen abilities against Levi, the Scout would beat him in battle.

7 Weaker: Tisalia Would Be Soundly Beaten By Gon's Variety Of Abilities (Monster Girl Doctor)

Tisalia and Glenn Monster Girl Doctor

Tisalia from Monster Girl Doctor, though a strong fighter gifted with extra legs due to being a centaur, would be beaten by Gon in battle. She mainly attacks with a lance, as well as using her hooves to kick opponents up close. Gon, meanwhile, has a wider variety of abilities he can use, including his Nen.

Tisalia would do her best to try to win against Gon, but Gon would ultimately triumph against her. He's just too adaptable and skilled overall for Tisalia to beat.

6 Stronger: Mistress 9 Would Be Too Tough To Defeat (Sailor Moon)

Mistress 9 Sailor Moon

Mistress 9, also known as the Sovereign of Silence in Sailor Moon, is incredibly hard to beat. She was powerful enough to summon her master Pharaoh 90. She also hijacked and took over Hotaru's body, either through consuming Pure Hearts or by being implanted in her much like how a Daimon was implanted in Hotaru's father Dr. Tomoe, depending on the version of the anime.

Gon could put up a good fight against her, but he would ultimately be beaten because she's too tough to be taken down alone. Even series protagonist Usagi had a hard time beating her, so it would make sense that Gon would also struggle.

5 Weaker: Kai Suwabara Would Be Overwhelmed By Gon's Nen (Yakitate!! Japan)

Kai Suwabara Yakitate!! Japan

Kai Suwabara is a baker and a swordsman in Yakitate!! Japan. He initially took up using the sword before deciding that baking bread was a more ethical path, hence why he became a baker to begin with, and joined the bakery chain Pantasia.

Despite his sword-wielding abilities, however, Gon would beat him simply because he's a much more powerful opponent with Nen on his side. Kai, meanwhile, doesn't have any additional abilities other than his skill with a katana.

4 Stronger: Kirito Could Defeat Gon In A Close Battle (Sword Art Online)

Kirito with sword in Sword Art Online

Considering that Kirito from Sword Art Online is an overpowered isekai protagonist as-is, he'd likely beat Gon based on might alone. Additionally, Kirito is strikingly experienced with swordplay and a variety of magic, as well as navigating tricky places like dungeons.

Gon is fairly adaptable, but he lacks a depth of combat experience when compared to Kirito. Some fans think that Kirito and Gon could be great friends with each other if they had the opportunity to just hang out and battle foes together.

3 Weaker: Pao-Lin Would Enjoy A Friendly Duel But She Would Lose (Tiger & Bunny)

Pao-Lin, also known by her alias Dragon Kid in Tiger & Bunny, is a kung fu fighter armed with a staff. She can also produce lightning, making her a tough opponent.

Despite her agile staff-related combat skills and lightning powers, however, Gon would still beat her in battle due to his wider variety of skills. Pao-Lin would put up a fun fight against him, but Gon would figure out a strategy to beat her in combat.

2 Stronger: Azusa Is A Magically Overpowered Isekai Protagonist (I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level)

azusa wil pills slimes

Azusa from I've Been Killing Slimes is one of the most impressive fighters in her respective series. She can create her own spells, has three hundred years of magic and combat experience, and she's strong enough to beat even Beelzebub and the Demon King, Pecora, all by herself.

Even though she's an overpowered isekai protagonist who would definitely beat Gon in battle based on her skill set, she much prefers the slow life over chaotic battles. If she and Gon ever met, they're more likely to befriend each other than fight at first sight.

1 Weaker: Clear Is A Great Fighter, But His Singing Is Ineffective (DRAMAtical Murder)

clear dramatical murder

Clear from DRAMAtical Murder, though a strong physical fighter, would ultimately fall if he went up against Gon. Clear's beautiful singing was powerful and effective against his fellow androids' Dye Music during his time in the anime, but it's unknown — and unlikely — if that technique would do any harm against normal people. Given how Clear mainly fights with his fists versus Gon's variety of combat skills, Clear would probably lose if he fought Gon.
