Hunter x Hunter is widely regarded as a shonen masterpiece. It has everything anime fans want: memorable characters, fantastic story arcs, complex worldbuilding, and arguably the most detailed power system in any anime. There was an anime adaptation in 1999, but most fans are familiar with the 2011 reboot, which ended in 2014.

Unfortunately, mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi's health problems have led to repeated hiatuses, so it's unlikely that any new episodes of Hunter x Hunter are going to be released anytime soon. Luckily, there are several anime programs that can be enjoyed by Hunter x Hunter fans, many of which are still ongoing.

Updated on March 21, 2023 by Ajay Aravind: The most recent Hunter x Hunter chapter was released on December 26th, 2022, but there still aren't enough volumes for the anime to mount a comeback. That said, this series remains as popular as ever. As such, we've revamped this list of anime shows for fans of Hunter x Hunter.

15 Seven Deadly Sins

When the kingdom of Liones is taken over by the traitorous Holy Knights, Princess Elizabeth must seek the help of the eponymous Seven Deadly Sins, the kingdom's most wanted criminals. Like Hunter x Hunter, Seven Deadly Sins is an action-adventure anime on a grand scale.

Seven Deadly Sins features a large cast of memorable characters and a story full of twists and turns. The fight scenes are dynamic and engaging, earning critical praise. Taking a page from Hunter x Hunter's playbook, the battles in this anime require more strategy than typical anime action scenes.

14 Made In Abyss

At first glance, Made in Abyss seems like a fun, lighthearted anime about adventuring in a mysterious land in search of wondrous relics, but the story gradually reveals an undercurrent of dark themes. This feeling was reflected by many Hunter x Hunter fans, who expected the series to be playful until the Yorknew City arc disabused them of this notion.

Made in Abyss is a brilliantly executed, adventure-based anime with compelling drama, stunning art, and gorgeous background music. This manga also spawned a video game and live-action film adaptation, although the latter is still in development.

13 Magi: The Labyrinth Of Magic

Exploring magical dungeons full of peril for the promise of vast riches and power sound like something straight out of Hunter x Hunter. In fact, Gon's father Ging often leads expeditions into archeological sites, much like the central premise of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Magi follows a young magician named Aladdin on a globe-trekking journey exploring a series of dangerous dungeons. Magi also contains whimsical characters and great worldbuilding inspired by the tales from The Arabian Nights. It's a fun action-packed anime that isn't afraid to go a little dark when it needs to.

12 No Game No Life

No Game No Life follows Sora and Shiro, together known as the legendary gamer "Blink", as they play their way through the world of Disboard to challenge the God of Games and eventually rule over Disboard. From the premise, this narrative may not seem very similar to Hunter x Hunter, but what both anime series share is their tactical approach to battles.

Like in Hunter x Hunter, battles in No Game No Life are won using wit instead of physical abilities. Interestingly, No Game No Life originally began as a light novel before receiving its manga and anime adaptations.

11 Naruto

There's hardly anyone who hasn't at least heard of Naruto. The massively popular ninja anime following Naruto Uzumaki on his journey to become the Hokage of his village draws some influence from Hunter x Hunter, which is no surprise considering the mangakas for both series have openly exchanged ideas with each other.

In addition, the Uchiha Clan from Naruto and the Kurta Clan from Hunter x Hunter share quite a few similarities. Both are powerful clans that have been wiped out, leaving only one survivor who becomes immensely powerful when their eyes turn red.

10 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure incorporates a unique power system with oddly specific rules, much like the concept of Nen in Hunter x Hunter. Nen abilities have specific rules and conditions that must be met to be used, and Stands are highly specific powers that cannot work under all scenarios.

For instance, Stands control someone's movements but only through the person's wounds, and the Stand has to be above the target. Nen in Hunter x Hunter creates more cerebral fights, and the conditions and limitations of Stands lead to battles that rely more on strategy than brute strength.

9 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is easily one of the greatest anime stories ever told, whereas its predecessor fails to capture the narrative vision and depth of Hiromu Arakawa's critically acclaimed manga series.

The anime follows two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who seek the fabled Philosopher's Stone. Edward wants his limbs back, but not nearly as much as he wants to save his little brother Al, who loses his body while performing Human Transmutation. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the perfect anime to watch for Hunter x Hunter fans who enjoy well-developed characters and profound themes.

8 My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is great for viewers looking for dynamic fight sequences like those seen in Hunter x Hunter. Featuring a large cast of memorable characters, My Hero Academia revolves around young Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers in a world where almost everyone has Quirks. However, Midoriya's narration states this is the story of how he becomes the world's greatest hero.

The anime could have taken the easy route and made the fight scenes all about strength. However, MHA characters have to be strategic with their Quirks while battling opponents. Even All Might cannot solve all his problems using brute force, especially when he takes on a villain as powerful as All For One.

7 One Piece

Hunter x Hunter has a grand scale of adventure that few anime have been able to match as well as One Piece. This story is centered around a young man named Monkey D. Luffy, who dreams of finding the legendary One Piece treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger, and becoming the new Pirate King.

One Piece is one of the longest-running anime of all time, not to mention the best-selling manga in history. With over 1,000 chapters and episodes under its belt, this series is considerably more cumbersome to binge than Hunter x Hunter. And yet, fans of One Piece will insist that this anime is worth watching — and they're right.

6 Yu Yu Hakusho

Anyone who loves Hunter x Hunter should watch Yu Yu Hakusho, particularly because these two mangas have the same creator. Yoshihiro Togashi's Yu Yu Hakusho ended long before Hunter x Hunter's first chapter, but both narratives have a similar feel in terms of character development and power-scaling.

Yu Yu Hakusho follows Yusuke Urameshi, who becomes an underworld detective after saving a child's life. He helps Koenma solve mysteries concerning demons that have been let loose upon the human world. This classic anime explores themes similar to Hunter x Hunter and the characters can be seen as precursors to the characters in Hunter x Hunter.

5 Dr. Stone

Dr. Stone is focused on the story of Senku and his friends, whose lives change forever when a strange phenomenon turns the entire population of humans on earth into stone. Thousands of years later, Senku wakes up but finds himself living in the Stone Age once again. With nothing but his brain to aid him, Senku sets off on an incredible adventure.

Just like Hunter X Hunter, the story of Dr. Stone sees a prodigious protagonist journey across the unknown. Dr. Stone's third season is slated for release in April 2023, and fans couldn't be more excited at the prospect.

4 Mob Psycho 100

Mob Psycho 100 revolves around Shigeyo Kageyama, also known as Mob, who unexpectedly wakes up with an arsenal of exotic psychic powers. Choosing to suppress his power because of its dangerous nature, Mob tries to learn how to use them properly, thereby understanding the essence of his newfound abilities.

Mob Psycho 100's world is full of crazy techniques, akin to what fans have seen in Hunter x Hunter. The anime is also incredibly hilarious and connects well to the fun nature of Hunter x Hunter. Mob's adventure, although not as detailed as Gon's, is something any diehard anime fan is going to cherish.

3 Dororo

One of 2019's most loved anime series, Dororo is a gorgeously written gem. Dororo verges on the darker side, but also includes lighthearted elements that are reminiscent of Hunter X Hunter, especially during the show's latter half.

The story is set in an age where a samurai lord's hunger for power leads him to pray to demons. 48 demons listen to his demands and grant him his wishes, but only if he willingly sacrifices the life of his firstborn son. Kagemitsu abandons the child who is born as an anomaly, but he ends up surviving anyway.

2 Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba

Koyoharu Gotouge's Kimetsu no Yaiba could easily rival the likes of Hunter x Hunter. The anime premiered in early 2019 and was treated to a mind-blowing reception. The adaptation by Ufotable was precisely what the show needed, as the anime storyline is its greatest asset.

Demon Slayer chronicles the story of Tanjiro, a teenager who lives in a world where demons exist among humans. Tanjiro's days go by in peace right until his sister gets turned into a demon as well. Ready to give up everything to change her back, Tanjiro sets out on an incredible journey that sees many others join him with different goals in their minds.

1 The Promised Neverland

The Promised Neverland anime is kind of similar to the Chimera Ant arc of Hunter x Hunter, although a bit darker. Its young characters don't have any Nen to defend themselves from Demons who see them as livestock. The story follows the journey of Emma, who lives happily among other children in an orphanage run by Sister Isabella.

Many orphans are supposedly sent off to families willing to adopt them. However, when Emma tries to say goodbye to her sister, she finds out that none of what they'd been told is true. Instead of being sent to new families, the children are eaten by Demons. With no escape, Emma must plan with her allies to save everyone from meeting their inevitable doom.
