Humble Games is running its annual winter sale, and a lot of great games have major discounts. It's a fact of life that not everyone has the time to play every single game that comes out. This is where gaming sales come in -- sales are often a great time for players to find hidden gems they missed or catch up on major releases that they did not have the time or budget for the first time around.

With hundreds of titles on sale, it can be difficult and even overwhelming to decide what is worth a purchase. Humble Games' annual winter sale is no different, as it offers a wide selection of both AAA and indie titles. With that in mind, here are five must-buy games currently on sale at Humble Games.

Persona 5 Royal Is a Unique RPG With Plenty To Offer

persona 5 royal joker all out attack

On sale for $41.99 (regular price $59.99; 30% off)

A lot has already been written about Persona 5 Royal and for good reason. Since its release in 2019, Persona 5 Royal has garnered near-perfect reviews and widespread acclaim. Persona 5 follows Joker, a high school student who discovers his latent supernatural abilities alongside his classmates, who fill out the game's cast. Set in modern-day Tokyo, Persona 5 Royal has a very different feel than most RPGs, and its story and massive amount of content will keep gamers busy for a long time.

The Royal edition contains additional content and some gameplay changes from the original 2016 release, thus making it the most complete version available. Although the price is still higher than a lot of sale games, it's an easy recommendation.

Psychonauts 2 Is an Iconic Platformer Everyone Should Play

Raz looks around Camp Whispering Rock at night.

On sale for $20.39 (regular price $59.99; 66% off)

The original Psychonauts finally got its long-awaited sequel in 2021. Double Fine studios and CEO/Creative Director Tim Schafer have created an engaging trip through the mind of 10-year-old protagonist Razputin "Raz" Aquato as he moves through the minds of other people. Psychonauts 2 at its core is a traditional single-player platformer, and it sets itself apart with incredible visuals and an interesting gimmick.

Players can use powers such as telekinesis and time manipulation to navigate the various stages. Although there can be some control issues, and some older game design choices can cause mild frustration, the game's story and overall setting more than make up for the minor issues. Anyone who enjoys platforming and original stage design will want to check this one out.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience Perfects the Series' Formula

Miller and Venom Snake on Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

On sale for $7.49 (regular price $29.99; 75% off)

The Metal Gear Solid series has been a mix of stealth-based gameplay, action, and an over-the-top story since its inception. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain built on and in many ways perfected these traditional elements of the series. The game gives players more options in approaching various objectives and scenarios than previous releases with its upgradable gadgets and abilities.

The gameplay still focuses heavily on stealth-based takedowns and non-lethal solutions to missions, but when the game does switch to action, it does so better than any other game in the series. The story is still the same ridiculous Metal Gear fare and players will love that or mostly tune it out, but MGS V overall is the best version of the series' formula.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Is a Fun & Memorable Space Adventure

A screenshot of the Guardians in The Guardians of the Galaxy game

On sale for $20.99 (regular price $59.99; 65% off)

Marvel's recent video games have been a mixed bag. While Avengers didn't really land with audiences, the new Marvel's Midnight Suns is off to a strong start. One of Marvel's other recent games, Guardians of the Galaxy, is a fun space adventure that may not break any new ground but does what it does well. The action-platformer follows the famous crew as they go from planet to planet and find themselves in various kinds of trouble. The environments are varied and the different team members' abilities function well together to create interesting action set pieces and some minor puzzle-solving.

The voice actors do a good job not trying to imitate the movie versions, and their banter adds some levity and legitimately funny moments. Comic fans who want a fun romp with familiar characters should check this one out. The deluxe version isn't a huge upgrade, however, as it only includes some digital art, a soundtrack, and in-game costumes.

A Plague Tale: Requiem Improves Upon Its Predecessor

Amicia and Hugo in the upcoming sequel, Plague Tale Requiem

On sale for $37.49 (regular price $49.99; 25% off)

A Plague Tale: Requiem seems to have slipped under the radar last year. Released only in October, this sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence is a blend of action, stealth, and survival horror. Requiem does an incredible job of building dread and atmosphere while still keeping focused on its main characters and plot.

Set just a few months after the first game in plague-ridden France, Requiem provides an expanded combat and stealth system. The main character Amicia can now survive being seen by enemies and regain stealth if undetected for a time. This change makes the game a bit more accessible, but it's still not easy, and players should be prepared to die a lot. An upgrade tree for her combat abilities has also been implemented, but the game remains stealth horror at its core. For fans of Silent Hill or other classic horror games, Requiem is a must-try.

Humble Games' annual winter sale gives gamers access to many different titles at great discounts. There really is something for everyone, and since there are so many releases these days, it's a great chance to go back and play titles that may have been missed the first time around.
