The following article contains spoilers from Sins of Sinister #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Despite the dark future in Sins of Sinister #1 (by Kieron Gillen, Lucas Werneck, Geoffrey Shaw, Marco Checchetto, Juan Jose Ryp, David Baldeon, Travel Foreman, Carlos Gomez, Federico Vicentini, David Lopez, Joshua Cassara, Stefano Caselli, Bryan Valenza, and VC's Clayton Cowles) being caused by Mister Sinister, it actually served to expose a number of flaws in the Marvel Universe. Aside from exposing just how dangerous Krakoa's monopoly on medical technology can be, it also highlighted just how apathetic humanity still is to the plight of the mutants. Despite all that Krakoa has given the world, even if it was based on an ultimatum, they ultimately do nothing to help.

Part of Sinister's plans involved destroying the anti-mutant organization, Orchis. However, he recognized that Krakoa could not do it alone, at least, not without unacceptable losses. So, he tricked humanity into helping the mutants destroy Orchis by offering them immortality, then faking an attack by Orchis to provoke their rage. Ultimately, it reveals that humans only care about the mutant struggle when it affects them, making their lack of involvement in the main timeline all the more selfish.

Mister Sinister Destroyed Orchis With a Lie

Mister Sinister Tricks the World

Orchis' destruction was all part of Sinister's long-term plans. He had his controlled members of the Quiet Council move to offer humanity the resurrection tech Krakoa had developed. To do that, they would need x-genes injected into themselves that Sinister could use to control people. Once the human backups were made and stored in Krakoa, Mister Sinister faked an assault on the Krakoa. This destroyed the living island's mind and wiped away all the backups, thus costing humanity countless lives and enraging them.

Sinister then had the Quiet Council falsely claim that it was Orchis who destroyed the backups, making them an enemy of the world at large. What followed was a short and highly destructive war with Orchis. Now, with the likes of the Avengers and Fantastic Four on their side, the X-Men quickly destroyed most of Orchis' bases and forced what few members survived to retreat into space. Even with those survivors, Sinister was content enough to no longer consider them a threat.

Sins of Sinister Exposes Human Selfishness

Orchis is Destroyed

However, this also reveals just how easily Orchis could have been dealt with if the world cared enough about the mutants to help. Consider, they only acted to help Krakoa when backups of human lives were destroyed. Orchis has killed several mutants at this point, but not one human government or superhero has lifted a finger to help. They can chalk it up to the affairs of a sovereign nation, but by only working with Krakoa after their own interests were threatened they expose how truly selfish they are.

It's made even worse by the fact that Orchis still threatens Krakoa in the main timeline. The world relies on the medication Krakoa provides, but even though the nation is under threat, they don't do anything. Likely, they will only help once the supply of Krakoan medication is cut off by a major Orchis attack, and by that point, it will likely be too late to fix anything. For all the horror Mister Sinister has unleashed, he was only able to ruin the world by taking advantage of the failures of both mutants and humanity.
