Just in time for the first semester of 2021, Hulu announced its launching a discounted streaming deal for students.

As part of its student-friendly plan, Hulu is offering U.S. college students unlimited access to the platform's ad-supported plan for a reduced price of $1.99 a month. Eligible students who are over the age of 18 can sign up right now for the deal, which gives access to Hulu's full streaming library of movies and television shows at a 65 percent discounted rate. Enrollment in the plan remains valid as long as the subscriber's student status remains verified.

Hulu’s ad-supported plan normally costs $5.99 per month and gives viewers unlimited, on-demand access to an impressive streaming library. The catalog of TV content includes fan favorites such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians, The Bachelor, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Family Guy, as well as Hulu Originals such as Pen15, Little Fires Everywhere and Ramy.

News about Hulu's student offer comes in the wake of rumors that the Disney-owned streaming platform may become the go-to platform for content released by Disney that is deemed too mature for the audience on Disney+. Specifically, it was recently suggested that the long-awaited Kingsman prequel -- The King's Man -- may be headed to Hulu. However, it's also been rumored that Disney may be looking to sell the release rights for The King's Man to FuboTV. It was also previously suggested that an R-rated Deadpool 3 could find a home on Hulu.

Streaming services are only becoming more important as the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to disrupt theatrical releases. Warner Bros. recently changed the game by premiering Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day. The production company plans to release 17 films in 2021 using the same hybrid model, and has adjusted numerous release deals to ensure filmmakers will still get paid. Disney made similar moves with its Premier Access release of the live-action adaptation of Mulan last fall, as well as the Christmas Day premiere of Pixar's Soul.

Students who sign up for the discounted plan will also have access to Hulu's Watch Party feature, which allows subscribers to stream thousands of titles with fellow Hulu-subscribing friends and classmates in different locations. College students interested in taking advantage of the student offer can visit Hulu.com/student to learn more about the offer and see if they qualify.
