Jeff Lemire's acclaimed Vertigo comic book series Sweet Tooth has officially received a pilot order from Hulu to potentially air on the premium streaming service..
The pilot episode will be written and directed by Jim Mickle who previously co-developed Hap and Leonard for three seasons on SundanceTV. Mickle will also serve as an executive producer on the project joined by Robert Downey, Jr. and his spouse Susan Downey. The adaptation will be produced through their production company Team Downey also in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Was created in 2009 by Lemire who wrote and illustrated the series across its 40-issue run which concluded in January 2013. The series took place in a post-apocalyptic world with humanity nearly eradicated by a mysterious plague coinciding with the arrival of human-animal hybrids.
Mickle recently wrapped principal photography on the Netflix original film In the Shadow of the Moon starring Boyd Holbrook. The film is expected to premiere on the premium streaming service sometime in 2019.
