Now that Disney has gained full control of Hulu, it is hard at work adding new originals to the streaming service. The latest addition is North American Lake Monsters, based on the collection of short stories by Nathan Ballingrud.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Hulu series will be an anthology based on how encounters with different monsters such as vampires and fallen angels affect Louisiana natives, who are forced to re-examine their broken lives.

Hulu already has a popular anthology series in the J.J. Abrams-Stephen King series Castle Rock, but North American Lake Monsters is going to look more like Hulu's other anthology horror series Into the Dark. While Into the Dark took the unusual tactic of releasing one episode a month, the actual format of the new series is still unknown.

Hulu also signed Mary Laws (Preacher) to adapt and serve as the executive producer of the new anthology series.

Nathan Ballingrud released North American Lake Monsters: Stories in 2013 and the story "The Monsters of Heaven" won the inaugural Shirley Jackson Award. The stories are described as tales of monsters, both real and imagined, supernatural and all too human.
