With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping everyone indoors, Hulu will allow its users to throw virtual watch parties so they can watch TV and movies together while apart.

According to Variety, the Watch Party feature is currently available, but only for a select group of titles and on hulu.com. It supports groups of up to eight people and also includes a chat room. Only subscribers with the $11.99 package with no ads have access to the feature, even those invited to watch.  Those who wish to participate in a Watch Party must be 18 or older to either start or join a co-viewing session, according to the streamer.

Despite the idea of watching together, Watch Party allows individual users to pause, rewind and fast forward a program without impacting others in the party. Subscribers can automatically catch up to the rest of the group by hitting the "click to catch up" button in the chat window.

Hulu is the latest streamer to integrate virtual watch parties. Netflix already has that feature, although it has be downloaded as a separate Google Chrome extension. Like Hulu Watch Party, Netflix Party also has a chat room.
