Warning: The following contains spoilers for Immortal Hulk #50, on sale now from Marvel.

The Hulk is a creature of many incredible powers, chief among them being his immense strength. In recent years, however, the Hulk and his fellow gamma mutates have shared in a new power: immortality. In Immortal Hulk #50, by Al Ewing, Joe Bennett, Ruy Jose, Belardino Brabo, Paul Mounts and VC's Cory Petit, the Hulk might have lost his immortality, while gaining another important ability along the way.

The Green Goliath potentially loses his immortality after a climactic confrontation with the One-Below-All in the Below-Place. Many important events take place here, from the shocking revelation about the One-Below-All, to the liberation of Bruce Banner and Samuel Sterns, aka the Leader.

Upon his return from the Below-Place, Bruce Banner walks triumphantly into the sunlight, musing about his new lease on life. According to Banner, much of this new perspective might come from the fact that the Green Door is now closed. Earlier in the issue, Joe Fixit also confirms that the Green Door to the Below-Place is now locked tight, since they took Samuel Sterns away from the One-Below-All.

Bruce Banner reflecting on the closing of the Green Door in Immortal Hulk #50

The closing of the Green Door is a big deal, considering the door connected all gamma mutates to the Below-Place. Upon dying, the Hulk and his allies could enter the Green Door into the Below-Place, and return to the land of the living through the way they came. Now, however, the door is closed, placing the Hulk's immortal status under serious scrutiny.

This raises another question around the Hulk's famous healing factor. The Jade Giant has healed from many devastating wounds in the past fairly quickly. Yet, if the Hulk is no longer immortal, it's unclear exactly how much damage the Green Goliath could actually withstand before dying. The Hulk might be more vulnerable than ever now.

Of course, with the Hulk's incredible durability, perhaps healing from wounds wouldn't be much of an issue. Additionally, characters like Wolverine have incredible healing factors, yet they can still die. Perhaps this will be the case for the Hulk going forward as well. It also shouldn't be forgotten that Banner muses about how, as one door closes, another has opened.

Indeed, as Bruce walks into the daylight, he claims to feel more confident and self-assured. One possibility that Banner points out is that he and his alters, the Savage Hulk and Joe Fixit, might have worked out some of their differences.

Bruce Banner thinking about how he reincorporated with Savage Hulk and Joe Fixit

This is very possible, considering what Banner thinks as he heads through the Forever Gate, back to Earth. Banner thinks he, Joe and the Savage Hulk have reunited as three parts of a system. With his newfound confidence, Banner might have finally reached a place of agreement with his other personas. This would be a major revelation, considering the power that both Hulks have.

With the gamma-powered Savage Hulk and the cosmic-powered Joe Fixit at his disposal, Banner could be stronger than ever before, especially if he could control these transformations. This is especially true, since Banner has never had both a gamma-powered and a cosmic-powered Hulk under his control before. Banner does note that the three of them still have work to do, but it does seem as if they're more at peace than they've been in a while.

After everything they went through while separated from Banner, the Savage Hulk and Joe Fixit are certainly on better terms than they've ever been. It's worth mentioning that Banner thinks about how he might have absorbed some of the "devil" on his shoulder. This seems to be a reference to the Devil Hulk, who was killed by the Leader. While the Devil Hulk may be gone, it seems as if Banner has "absorbed" the self-assuredness and confidence that the Devil Hulk gave him.

With this newfound mindset and his agreement with two powerful alter-egos, Bruce Banner's Hulk might be stronger than he's been in a long time. The Hulk may not be immortal anymore, but he's still the strongest one there is.
