One of the Hulk's lesser-known powers is his body's ability to turn nearly anything into energy. However, over his 56 years of publication history, we've seen the big guy display a real love of food. Hulk has stuffed his face with everything from beans to pizza to... people? You read that right! The Marvel Universe proper has never strayed away from portraying the Hulk as less than a hero, but he is also rarely seen outright evil either. However, the Marvel Multiverse is vast and wide and in more than one timeline the World Breaker becomes a Man Eater instead.

However, Hulk isn't the only one doing the chowing down. Due to his seemingly infinite ability to regenerate his body, the Hulk has often been the target of creatures looking for a never-ending meal ticket. Due to his status as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, writers and artists alike can't resist placing him up against giant monsters that don't realize what a mistake it is to try and eat him. In this list we'll explore some of the times Hulk has eaten his friends and foes (and vice versa).

15 EATEN BY HOARFEN

Hoarfen_Eats_Hulk_The_Incredible_Hulk_#422

Our first entry takes place on the pages of The Incredible Hulk #422 by writer Peter David and artists Gary Frank, Cam Smith and Glynis Oliver. The issue finds Hulk in the middle of some serious family drama in Asgard. He and Loki's half-human son Agamemnon travel there to escape Agamemnon's own son, Jason the Renegade. It turns out that Agamemnon is actually a huge jerk and he sets up camp at the fortress of a powerful frost giant named Siingard.

Hulk and a team of Asgardians attempt to capture Agamemnon at the fortress, but he refuses to surrender. Seeing Hulk and friends aren't backing down, Siingard summons Hoarfen, the child of his sister and Loki's wolf-son Fenris Wolf. During the ensuing fight, Agamemnon is captured by Hulk's team, but before they can escape, the two are chewed up and swallowed by the beast, killing them.

14 EATEN BY THE EGG BREAKER

Planet_Hulk_Hulk_vs_The_Egg_Breaker_Wildebot

In 2010, Marvel released an animated version of the Planet Hulk storyline by writer Greg Pak and artists Carlo Pagulayan, Aaron Lopresti, Jerffery Huet and Chris Sotomayor. For the most part the adaptation follows the source material pretty closely, but there are a few notable exceptions.

One of the minor changes is the fight between Hulk and a robotic monster known as The Egg Breaker. In the original comic, Hulk is easily able to defeat the infamous creature with a single (yet mighty) blow. In the animated version of their fight, however, Hulk has a bit more trouble. After being batted around a bit, Hulk is finally eaten by the "Wildebot." Moments later, Hulk bursts through the monster's chest and ends its ravenous reign of terror.

13 ULTIMATE HULK EATS HERR KLEISER

Ultimates_#13_Hulk_Eats_Herr_Kleiser

Unlike his less overtly violent counterpart in the main Marvel universe, Ultimate Hulk racked up a pretty nasty body count in his day. Even though he killed thousands of people, there are a few deaths that stand out more than others. One such kill was his "fight" with Herr Kleiser in Ultimates #13 by writer Mark Millar and artists Bryan Hitch, Paul Neary and Paul Mounts.

Kleiser was a member of the shape-shifting Chitauri race who arrived on Earth during WWII. He was an enemy of Ultimate Captain America for years until Kleiser finally died at the hands of the Hulk. Realizing the only way to defeat Kleiser was by unleashing the Hulk, Cap intentionally sends Banner into a rage. After triggering the transformation, Cap tells him that Kleiser had been "all over Betty" and Hulk quickly tears him apart and eats his remains.

12 EATEN BY VULTURES

During one of his many tangles with gods, Hulk is eaten by vultures for multiple days on the pages of The Incredible Hulks #622 by writer Greg Pak and artistsPaul Pelletier, Danny Miki and Paul Mounts. Following the 2010 Chaos War event, Hulk travels to Mount Olympus to demand that Zeus use his power to aid his allies.

Zeus is insulted by the Hulk's demands and trounces him in a fight. After falling from Mount Olympus, Hulk is impaled on a giant rock and awakens to find himself shackled to the stone. Hephaestus explains that he will spend the rest of his days chained to the rock for angering Zeus. Mere moments later several giant vultures descend on the Hulk and begin picking at his body. He's stuck like that for three whole days before Hercules kills the Vultures and comes to his rescue.

11 HULK SWALLOWS MR. FANTASTIC

Our next entry pulls from issue #2 of the 1999 miniseries Contest of Champions II by writer Chris Claremont and artists Oscar Jimenez and Eduardo Alpuente. The storyline saw a group of Marvel's heroes tricked into a series of competitions against one another by a seemingly benevolent alien race in exchange for advanced technology.

In the second issue, the Jade Giant goes head to head with Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic. Reed seems to have the upper hand at first by using his stretching powers to avoid the Hulk's blows. He begins to wrap himself around Hulk's entire body in an effort to suffocate him, but this plan quickly backfires. Using his incredible lung capacity Hulk inhales Reed's body. Once Reed passed out, the Hulk spit him out and claimed victory.

10 CONSUMED BY VENOM

In another alternate universe tale, Hulk is consumed by the Venom symbiote in What If? Vol. 2 #4 by writer Danny Fingeroth and artists Mark Bagley, Keith Williams and Tom Vincent. The issue explores the story of what would have happened if Spider-Man had been possessed by the black symbiote costume. After "permanently" bonding with Peter Parker, the symbiote begins to drain his energy, causing him to age 50 years in just a few days.

When Peter is all used up, the Symbiote takes the opportunity to attach itself to Ol' Green Skin. The Avengers try to take out the Venom-Hulk, but with its newfound power, the symbiote easily defeats the Avengers. The symbiote "cures" Banner of the Hulk by absorbing the power for itself before attaching to Thor.

9 ZOMBIE HULK EATS THE UNIVERSE

Marvel_Zombies_Hulk_Eats_Magneto

Before Robert Kirkman was a partner at Image Comics, he spent a few years of his career working for Marvel on the side. His most notable contribution during his time with the publisher was unquestionably the first volume of Marvel Zombies with artists Sean Phillips and June Chung. In this incarnation of the Marvel universe, Earth's superheroes are infected with a virus that turns them into sentient zombies.

By the time issue #1 has begun, Hulk and several of Earth's Mightiest Heroes have already devoured nearly every human being on the planet. The Silver Surfer arrives to warn the former heroes that Galactus will soon arrive to devour their world, but is instead consumed by the zombie Avengers. When Galactus does arrive, the zombies consume him and gain the Power Cosmic. The first arc concludes with the former heroes using their newfound power to travel to another planet and start all over again.

8 OLD MAN HULK EATS OLD MAN LOGAN

Hulk-Old-Man-Logan

Thanks to the film Logan, most fans are now at least casually familiar with the 2008 storyline Old Man Logan by writer Mark Millar and artists Steve McNiven, Dexter Vines and Morry Hollowell. In this version of Earth, most of the world's superheroes are killed after their villains organize to wipe them out. The surviving heroes are forced into hiding as America is divided up by Abomination, Magneto, Doctor Doom and Red Skull.

Hulk eventually kills Abomination, becoming the ruler of his own region called Hulkland. The Hulk Gang (a group of his cannibalistic, inbred offspring) murder Logan's family to get a rise out of the former hero. During the ensuing fight Old Man Hulk easily defeats and consumes Logan. However, Logan regenerates inside of Mean Green before bursting from his stomach and killing him.

7 ULTIMATE HULK IS A STRAIGHT UP CANNIBAL

Ultimate_Wolverine_vs._Hulk_#2_Hulk_Eats_Ranchers

Despite protecting the Earth on numerous occasions and serving as a founding member of The Avengers, the Hulk is generally portrayed as a morally gray character. However, in the Ultimate Universe, he's mostly just a monster. By the time the universe was wrapping up, Hulk had become a blood thirsty killer who'd eaten dozens of people.

In fact, he's eaten so many people that he actually appears on this list more than once. For this entry, we're focuing on his actions in Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #2 by writer Damon Lindelof and artists Leinil Francis Yu and Dave McCaig. In the issue, Banner is provoked to turn into the Hulk after being mocked by his coworkers for being vegan. After transforming, we see him tear apart and eat his coworkers and their herd of cattle.

6 ZOMBIE PLANET HULK EATS NEW YORK

While we're on the subject of Marvel Zombies, let's talk about the second Zombie Hulk, who was introduced in Marvel Zombies Return #4 by writer Seth Grahame-Smith and artists Richard Elson and Matt Milla. At the end of Marvel Zombies 2, the remaining zombie heroes are teleported to other dimensions by the Acolyte, Malcolm Cortez.

In one of these universes the zombie plague begins to spread all over again and one of the new heroes to be infected is that dimension's Hulk, fresh off his stay in Sakaar. Upon arriving on the moon to attack Black Bolt, he finds the Inhumans have all been infected. They devour the rest of the Warbound, but Hulk manages to escape with Elloe Kaifi. After realizing he's been bitten, Hulk turns and immediately tears Elloe apart. After this he travels to New York City and begins rampaging through the streets, devouring every person in sight.

5 EATEN BY SPIKES

In the original Planet Hulk storyline, the Spikes are a race of sentient spore-like aliens who thrive off the energy of dying stars. Years before Hulk's arrival, they crash landed on Sakaar and were driven insane by their hunger. Becoming animalistic, the Spikes consumed every living thing they came in contact with. That is, until they met the Sakaarson.

Our hero was the first person to ever be able to fend off the Spikes' infection thanks to his healing factor. Able to sense their intelligence, he met and bargained with the leaders of the Spikes. Allowing them to feed on him to satiate their hunger, the Spikes aided Hulk in his war against the Red King. Once he claimed the throne, Hulk kept his promise and helped the Spikes return to the stars.

4 ANT-MAN: JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE HULK

Eric_O'Grady_Eaten_By_Hulk_The_Irredeemable_Ant-Man_#10

Another pull from Robert Kirkman's time at Marvel is issue #10 of The Irredeemable Ant-Man, written by Kirkman with art by Phil Hester, Ande Parks, Bill Crabtree and Val Staples. Set during the World War Hulk event, the big guy has returned to Earth seeking revenge on the people who betrayed him.

The former Avenger gives the people of New York City 24 hours to evacuate or he'll level the city. Eric O'Grady, the fourth Ant-Man, enters the city to help survivors (but actually to loot) as the clock expires. O'Grady runs into the Hulk and decides to actually try to lend a hand by attacking him from within. Ant-Man flies into his open mouth and launches an assault on his stomach to no avail.

3 ULTIMATE HULK EATS ABOMINATION

Ultimates_2_#12_Hulk_Eats_Abomination

In Ultimate Hulk's final appearance on this list, he ate Abomination on the pages of Ultimates 2 #12 by writer Mark Millar and artists Bryan Hitch, Paul Neary and Laura Martin. The issue finds the Ultimates facing off against the Liberators, an international team of supervillains tasked with waging guerrilla warfare against the United States. One member of the team is the Ultimate universe's Abomination, the Chinese scientist Chang Lam.

Lam transformed himself into the Abomination while trying to develop a more stable version of Banner's formula. Due to his lack of mental illness, Lam was able to control his super-powered form, but he still wasn't able to match up to the Hulk. When the two teams came to blows, Abomination was easily defeated and pulled him apart piece by piece as he pled for his life. After decapitating him with a punch, Hulk stopped fighting to feast on his remains.

2 EATEN BY COCKROACHES

Hulk_The_End_Eaten_Alive_By_Cockroaches

Everyone knows that Hulk is the strongest one there is, so the idea of him losing to some puny bugs may seem impossible. However, the cockroaches we see in Hulk: The End, by writer Peter David and artists Dale Keown, Joe Weems and Dan Kemp, are no ordinary bugs.

The story sees Hulk (and Bruce Banner) as the last remnant of human society centuries after a cataclysmic event wiped out nearly all life on the planet. Save for a few small animals, the only other living creatures left on Earth are swarms of giant, irradiated cockroaches who spend their days picking the bones of the Earth clean. One of their primary food sources seem to be the Hulk. The creatures routinely find and devour most of Hulk's body just for him to regenerate for their next meal.

1 EATEN BY YOU

Hulk_Breakfast_Cereal

Superheroes are no strangers to the cereal box and in 2003, it was Hulk's turn to smash hunger. Hulk Cereal was released as a limited edition promotion alongside Ang Lee's infamous Hulk film. The Lucky Charms-style cereal featured four marshmallow shapes of varying relevance to the Hulk.

For starters, we had a blue laboratory beaker, which makes enough sense considering Banner is a scientist. Next up was  a red brick, because...the Hulk smashes bricks? There was also a little yellow explosion that looked more like a sheriff's badge than anything else. Arguably the worst of them all, though, was the little green man intended to be the Hulk. Instead of looking anything like the iconic character, the puny little guys bared a striking resemblance to Flubber.
