Well, we can finally say we know something about director Brad Bird's Tomorrowland, the top-secret sci-fi movie that stars George Clooney -- namely that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Laurie is in talks to play the villain. That's it, really, which considering the nature of the film -- until just two weeks ago, it was called 1952 -- is still something.
Bird co-wrote the script with Damon Lindelof based on an idea by Lindelof one-time Entertainment Weekly writer Jeff Jensen. The director recently teased the project with a photo of a box said to have been uncovered in the Disney archives, leading D23 (the official Disney fan club) to turn to actual Disney Archives Director Becky Cline to try to identify the contents. Her findings are interesting, if not exactly illuminating.
The Hollywood Reporter floats that the film "has been described as being in the vein of Close Encounters of the Third Kind," so there's that. However, the title Tomorrowland may offer the biggest clue, as it's an apparent reference to the Disney parks theme lands of the same name nown for looking to the future of technology and humanity.
