A photo posted to Hugh Jackman's social media has many Marvel fans convinced the X-Men actor will be reprising his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Jackman, who made his debut as Logan/Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men, recently shared a picture of himself staring at his phone with a surprised look on his face. Fans quickly replied to the actor's social media post with Deadpool gifs, remarking that the photo was confirmation that Jackman was returning to the Marvel universe for one last Wolverine performance in Deadpool 3. At the time of writing, neither Marvel Studios, Jackman nor anyone working on Deadpool 3 has publicly responded to the assumptions surrounding the tweet or confirmed the actor's involvement in the upcoming threequel.

Although Jackman initially received some backlash when cast as Weapon X back in 1999, his performance as the Marvel mutant ended up being well-received by critics and fans. The actor reprised the role eight more times in the X-Men film series up until 2017's Logan, which served as Jackman's swan song for the character. Despite stepping away from the character over five years ago, Marvel fans and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds have remained vocal about Jackman reprising the role in Deadpool 3. The character did appear in 2018's Deadpool 2, but only through archival and deleted footage from 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy, who directed Jackman in 2012's Real Steel and Reynolds in 2021's Free Guy and 2022's The Adam Project, previously stated that he was determined to work with both actors together on a film. "I'm not going to say where and how, but I absolutely will confirm my intention and determination to be the lucky son of a ***** who puts those two magnificent gods in the same movie together," Levy said back in March 2022. "That will happen and that will be me."

A third solo film centered on the Merc with a Mouth originally entered development in November 2016. Following the acquisition of 20th Century Fox, Disney confirmed in December 2017 that Deadpool 3 would be developed by Marvel Studios and be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, Reynolds and Leslie Uggams are the only two actors from the previous Deadpool films confirmed to return for the third film. Zazie Beetz and Morena Baccarin, who played Domino and Vanessa, respectively, in the franchise, have previously stated that they are unsure if they are in Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 does not have a release date at this time.
