Hugh Jackman just tweeted a video to celebrate the one-year “Truce-Aversary” with Ryan Reynolds. A year ago, after a series of playful pranks, trolls and jabs the two played on each other, Jackman and Reynolds (known to fanboys for their portrayals of Wolverine and Deadpool) called a truce, with the two actors saying that they would both make ads for their companies – Jackman’s Laughing Man Coffee, and Reynolds’ Aviation Gin. The released video is a hilarious clip of Jackman having a taste of the aforementioned gin brand and saying it’s just okay (while also still saying he is at peace with Reynolds).

In the commemoration of the roughly year-long truce between the two X-Men stars, let’s take a look at the origins of the feud, as well as the funny and funnier scenarios it spawned.

Ryan Reynolds Uploads a Fake Political Ad that Makes Fun of Jackman (November 2, 2018)

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman

To be fair, Jackman and Reynolds have had a friendly rivalry as far back as 2009 when they appeared in X-men Origins: Wolverine. However, one of the first instances of this famous feud arose around the time that Jackman’s film, The Front Runner, was about to be released in 2018. The film is a biopic on Gary Hart and focused on a sex scandal that he was embroiled in. To wink at this, Reynolds released a video called "Three Facts About Hugh Jackman," which was presented in the style of a political ad, the type that the real Gary Hart faced during his run for office.

The hilarious video, which features a disclaimer that it is not paid for by Ryan Reynolds, makes claims that Hugh Jackman doesn’t go by his real name (it’s Hugh Michael Jackman), is actually from Milwaukee rather than Australia, and that by walking off the job for Wolverine, he added to unemployment. The video’s mysterious narrator (who once again claims to not be Ryan Reynolds come the video’s end) urges the Academy to give a more affable “foreigner from a neighboring country” a chance to make a speech at the Oscars while showing a dapper picture of the Canadian actor.

This actually wasn’t the first instance of Reynolds making the Milwaukee claim. For Reynolds's 42nd birthday, which was just a week prior, Jackman tweeted a picture of the two actors hugging with this caption: “Because I’m told that I AM THE NICEST GUY and you’re Not. @VancityReynolds … I will let you hug me. Just this once on your birthday.” Reynolds responded back, "This man is a monster. He’s not even from Australia. He’s from Milwaukee.”

Jackman wasted no time in reacting to the video attack on The Front Runner. Soon after he uploaded a video on Twitter of his dog defecating on a picture of Ryan Reynolds in his Deadpool garb.

Ryan Reynolds Declares War on Hugh Jackman (December 4, 2018)

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

A month after this video came out, the origins of the feud became more lucid, and it tied into Jackman’s retirement from his 16-year long run as Wolverine. 2017’s Logan was widely touted as Hugh Jackman’s final portrayal of the iconic X-Men character. The thing is, just a year earlier was the release of Deadpool, which starred Reynolds in a more comics-accurate version of the character than the one that he played in the ill-fated X-Men Origins: Wolverine (roughly considered non-canon now). Reynolds really wanted Jackman to don the claws again so that his Wolverine could appear in at least one movie with this more faithful iteration of Deadpool.

In an interview with Ellen, Reynolds really fleshed out the conflict. “He's on this kick ball change kick right now. I can't seem to bring him back. I can't seem to bring him back to the violence and the mayhem,” Reynolds explained. “I'm trying. I talk to him every other day. Every other other day he takes the call. It's not really a rivalry. It's war."

Christmas Prank (December 20, 2018)

Reynolds was invited to a holiday party by Jackman, and as related in an Instagram post, Reynolds was severely tricked in this case. Reynolds claims that he was told by Jackman that the holiday would be a Christmas sweater party, so he dressed in a green and red piece that resembled a Christmas present. Upon arriving, though, he found that everyone else was wearing far more casual attire. The Instagram photo shows Reynolds center in his festive-outfit, looking plainly annoyed, as Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal surround him laughing.

Ripping on Jackman and Patrick Stewart Breaking a Record (February 22, 2019)

X-Men Logan Xavier Hugh Jackman Patrick Stewart

Hugh Jackman and X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart officially entered the Guinness Book of World Records for longest careers as live-action superheroes, with their tenure as Wolverine and Professor X lasting 16 years and 228 Days. In light of this announcement, Reynolds took to Twitter and trolled with this humorous response: For Fingernail Length? These are just some of the highs of this fun feud, and Happy Truce-Aversary to High Jackman, Ryan Reynolds and all those involved.
