District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is going back to his roots with his next film, Chappie, but not without the same sense of star-power displayed in this summer's Elysium.

Matt Damon and Jodie Foster are nowhere in sight for Blomkamp's follow-up; instead, the filmmaker is looking at Hugh Jackman for a role in the film.

"I am doing a role in Neill's new film, called Chappie, which we shoot in Johannesburg," the Oscar-nominated actor told Screen Daily over the weekend. "I'm there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year."

Deadline adds further details, saying Jackman will play "the rival of Dev Patel's character." From what we know of Chappie so far, Patel plays "the film's human lead, a young man in the impoverished town." As Patel's "rival," with only "a couple of weeks" worth of shooting for the role, I'm betting Jackman gets a quick and fiery exit to set the film's stakes — but your guess is as good as mine.

Chappie, centering on a kidnapped police robot in the slums of South Africa, is set for release on March 27, 2015.
