Kevin Smith is enjoying a career resurgence one year after suffering a major heart attack. On top of finally starting production on his Jay and Silent Bob Reboot movie, he is also working on bringing Howard the Duck to life as a Marvel Hulu animated series.

Smith revealed on Instagram that fans of the original Howard the Duck movie will get a special treat on his Hulu series. Smith said revealed Lea Thompson, who played Howard's love interest Beverly in the 1986 film, will join the animated series in a "super secret" role.

"I can’t spoil where we’re going, but I can tell you this: I already asked movie-Howard heroine @lea_thompson to lend us her vocal Quack Fu in a to-be-revealed-later role," Smith said in an Instagram post. "And she did NOT say no!"

Smith also mentioned he would be writing Howard the Duck along with Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force). The two will bring the entire cast of characters to Howard the Duck, including Beverly, Bong and more.

The filmmaker also revealed he saw tests for the Hit Monkey and M.O.D.O.K. animated series, and they looked "astounding." He went on to say that they have their work cut out for them to reach the level of those two upcoming animated series, but with the "genius behind Meatwad," Howard is in some "fine feathered fingers."

Howard the Duck is one of four new Marvel animated series coming to Hulu. The other three are Hit-MonkeyM.O.D.O.K., and Tigra & Dazzler. When the four series conclude, they will team up as The Offenders -- obviously poking fun at Netflix and The Defenders.

Kevin Smith is not the only big name attached to these Hulu animated series. Patton Oswalt will take on the M.O.D.O.K. series, Chelsea Handler will executive produce the Tigra & Dazzler and Josh Gordon and Will Speck (Blades of Glory) will take on Hit-Monkey.

The official synopsis is as follows:

Trapped in a world he never made, America’s favorite fighting fowl Howard the Duck hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu, in Marvel’s Howard the DuckMarvel’s Howard the Duck comes from writers Kevin Smith and Dave Willis, with Smith, Willis, and Jeph Loeb serving as Executive Producers.

Kevin Smith started shooting Jay and Silent Bob Reboot on Monday, so it is likely he will look to finish that before he is able to get started on the new Marvel Hulu project. There are no projected release dates for any of the new Hulu animated series.
