In 1992, the creation of Image Comics changed the face of comic books forever. With a focus on creator-owned comics, the independent publisher has provided a legitimate challenge to the cultural influence of Marvel and DC Comics for a quarter of a century. While the publisher may be more familiar as the home of epics like "The Walking Dead" or "Saga" today, its early days were defined by some of the most beloved and infamous comics of the 1990s.

During those first few years, most of Image's output was heavily influenced by its superstar founders, Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, Jim Valentino and Erik Larsen. While they didn't always get the best reviews, the Image Comics of the 1990s were commercial juggernauts that spoke to a generation of young fans. With the freedom to tell the stories they wanted to tell, comic creators were able to tell more mature superhero stories, often with a paramilitary or supernatural slant. While Image's publishing line has grown increasingly diverse over the decades, a handful of those early titles are still being published today. Now, CBR wants to test your knowledge of these old school Image titles from comics' most extreme era.
