WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 2, streaming now on Netflix.

Season 2 of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy ends on a high-octane note as the heroes stop the apocalypse in 1963 and seemingly return home to the original timeline where that apocalypse has also been averted. However, the finale, "The End of Something," marks a new beginning filled with a few very intriguing plot points that could still spell doom for the dysfunctional family.

THE SPARROW ACADEMY

Ben in The Umbrella Academy Season 2

As Luther, Allison, Vanya, Klaus, Five and Diego enter the mansion in present-day, they're shocked to find Reginald Hargreeves still alive. However, he's adopted a new team, led by none other than an adult Ben. The Hotel Oblivion comic story touched on this, revealing the Sparrows as a side-project seemingly run by the robotic Mom. Season 3 will most likely see the two teams coming to blows as Ben's clearly a darker version of himself.

Ben seems to be the Number One Reginald always wanted, and it'll be interesting to find out why Reginald choose this new crew and what actually happened to Luther's team in this rectified timeline. This will create a lot of family issues as it's clear the Dallas escapades informed Reginald of the future. The books didn't showcase much of the Sparrows' identities, and the show has smartly hidden them in the shadows too, suggesting they're a more ruthless bunch.

THE HARLAN COMPLEX

Vanya fell in love with Sissy and her son, Harlan, but left them in the past to protect them from her chaotic life. They were last seen driving past New Mexico but the boy still has powers Vanya imbued him with to save his life. From the way he's found floating his toy, a third season could see an adult Harlan come into the fold. Many are wondering if he's actually the father of all the gifted kids Reginald discovered in 1989, which would bring Vanya's story full-circle in a loop.

If not, there's also the possibility either Reginald's academy or Luther's squad will encounter Harlan, who might go into full-blown god mode at that time. It remains to be seen if he'll be a villain or not because he could be set up as a male version of the destructive White Violin later down the line.

LILA'S JOURNEY

Lila stole a briefcase and time-jumped after the Handler was killed, meaning Season 3 is poised to focus on if she and Diego can rekindle their love. On top of that, Lila knows the truth about the Handler orchestrating her death and manipulating the lives of her and Diego's family, so she can embark on a path towards redemption.

The Time Commission is now run by Herb so she could even return to duty there and make amends. The fact that the time-correction could see other agents such as Hazel and Cha-Cha return means Lila could have other rivals within the organization. She is sort of an anomaly too so there's a chance with her powers and the briefcase she has, Herb and Co. may actually need to bring her in, providing the agents with a potential conflict with Diego as he believes in Lila's heroic side. There's also the possibility she could tinker with the timeline to save her parents.

HOTEL OBLIVION

Hotel Oblivion didn't just set the Sparrows up for a fourth volume in the comics, but it also gave fans the first look at the cosmic prison Reginald hid villains such as Perseus and Medusa. Given that there are over two dozen other super-powered babies born on that fateful day, fans don't know if they've also been imprisoned by Reginald in after failed recruitment or training. A prison like that is a powder keg because Reginald could be using it for other sinister means and side-missions.

It's still unclear what Pogo and Mom are up to as well, so there's always a chance they could be running their own teams and even constructing this sort of prison on their own. The point is, Luther and Co. may be running into their 'siblings' in the third season in the form of capes, vigilantes and super-powered enemies as they have no idea how the world changed. In that sense, the hotel may well be Earth with the oblivion being caused by the light side and dark side clashing in the name of justice.

Streaming now on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy Season 2 stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min, with Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, Jordan Claire Robbins, Kate Walsh and Colm Feore.
